❗️Groot nieuws vanop de NAVO-top

Vandaag zette we een belangrijke stap vooruit in de bescherming van onze bevolking en kritieke infrastructuur. Met Nederland ondertekenden we een overeenkomst voor de gezamenlijke aankoop van een modern, gelaagd luchtverdedigingssysteem met NASAMS-raketten, SkyRanger-systemen en geavanceerde radars

Na twintig jaar zonder, zal België met deze gezamenlijke aankoop opnieuw een eigen krachtige luchtverdedigingscapaciteit opbouwen.

📈 Sterke economische return

Het Noorse NASAMS versterkt niet alleen onze veiligheid. Ook de Belgische economie en defensie-industrie zullen er de vruchten van plukken. Heel wat Belgische bedrijven zullen meewerken aan de ontwikkeling van lanceersystemen, software, elektronica, radarcomponenten, cybersecurity en onderhoud.
De maatschappelijke return bedraagt meerdere honderden miljoenen euro. Rekening houdend met de multiplicatoreffecten loopt dat zelfs op tot meer dan één miljard euro.

Veiligheid versterken én investeren in Belgische jobs, innovatie en technologische expertise: dat is een strategische keuze voor de toekomst.

🇱🇻🇪🇪🇱🇹 Russia accuses Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania of preparing hostile actions. Pure fantasy.

This from a country that has invaded its neighbour, bombs civilians daily, deports children, and runs a huge disinformation machine. The same country that is responsible for recent incidents with drones in the Baltic, and then cries provocation. The absurdity would be laughable but this is jeopardizing security.

Latvia has categorically denied these allegations as disinformation. Because that is exactly what they are.

Belgium stands in full solidarity with Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. A threat against one Member State is a threat against our entire Union and against NATO.

Luitenant-Generaal Vincent Descheemaeker gaat op rust na een lange carrière in onze krijgsmacht. Een paracommando zonder kapsones met tonnen ervaring in buitenlandse operaties. Hij is de enige officier die als bataljonscommandant ooit 1 Para én 3 Para leidde. Een man van het terrein, die altijd graag gezien was en is als baas.

De laatste jaren was hij het hoofd van R&O, readiness & operations, en coördineerde hij alle trainingen en operaties. We moeten ons leger terug scherper en operationeler krijgen, generaal Descheemaeker was hiervoor de geknipte man.

The Strait of Hormuz is vital for global trade, energy security, and maritime stability. Its continued closure has far-reaching economic and security consequences for all of us.

Here in Belgium, families feel it at the pump and on their energy bills. Our open economy is also directly affected. But the impact is even more devastating for developing countries, where rising prices of fuel, food, and fertilizers push the most vulnerable deeper into crisis.

This is why, at the initiative of the UK and hosted by @YvetteCooperMP, I took part in a meeting of a coalition of Foreign Ministers today to assess the situation. We were united in affirming our shared commitment to safeguarding the freedom of navigation and the urgency of a coordinated international response.

We discussed the need to mobilize the necessary political and diplomatic levers, including economic sanctions, to reopen the Strait, and to ensure the freedom of navigation within a defensive framework, contingent on a durable ceasefire and a clear international approach.

Within these parameters, I expressed Belgium’s commitment to supporting safe, lawful, and unimpeded navigation in the Strait of Hormuz — in full respect of peace, international law, and long-term regional stability. Belgium stands ready to contribute, including through our renowned expertise in demining.
