According to reports, Johnny Mims, a high school band director, was tased multiple times and arrested after failing to stop his band during the 5th quarter performance. Several officers were heard yelling at Mims to leave and informed him that they would contact the school. Mims responded by stating it was the last song. Subsequently, the field lights went off, and a sergeant said to place him in handcuffs. An altercation began after that, although it remains unclear who initiated it. Then, an officer deployed the stun gun three times in front of a crowd full of students. Following the incident, Birmingham City schools stated, "As a safety precaution, fifth-quarter performances are not allowed." However, the school district has opted not to investigate the incident.
