The New York Times: No puedes “gamificar” una educación real.

Leer a veces aburre. Escribir cuesta.
"Human experience of space and time in the physical world."
This chart illustrates that humans perceive only a tiny slice of the full universe. The large striped box represents everything that exists—from the smallest subatomic particles to the vast reaches of outer space, and from the briefest instants to the entire age of the cosmos.
At the center, the small white square labeled “Human Experience” marks the narrow range of sizes and time scales we can directly sense, like the dimensions of a room or the span of a human lifetime. It highlights how most of reality lies beyond our perception—either too small, too immense, too fast, or too slow for our senses—leaving us with a very limited window into the true scope of the universe.
Crown shyness is a phenomenon where trees' uppermost branches avoid touching, forming a delicate web of natural negative space. This is thought to be a growth response to prevent ongoing abrasion damage and potential pest invasion.

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
— Albert Einstein
The Dark Side of the Moon dura exactamente 42:50 minutos.
Guiños involuntarios de la historia 😉

found the original 4k+ resolution artemis ii moon photos rather than the compressed 1080p ones official government accounts have been posting and the details are absolutely spectacular

an esoteric colour picker exploring perceptual ambiguities, drawn from ~3 million human-labelled colours.
for each named colour (eg. "pink"), the disc represents the two primary axes of uncertainty in the data, and the slider exposes a third axis. more details below.
Opinion: Fifty years ago, the assets held by S&P 500 companies were predominantly physical. But today, it is estimated that around 90% of their assets are intangible. This transformation helps to explain four prevailing themes in the US stock market https://t.co/enjf4BdloR
🚀 I just revised the "#MachineLearning Concepts" chapter in my free, online e-book, "Applied Machine Learning in Python"!
Why? Because I'm committed to creating actionable, accessible, and completely free educational content for anyone learning ML. Whether you're a student, educator, or practitioner—this resource is for you. As a professor, I'm stoked to be able to serve society!

Measuring agricultural GDP at a pixel level is notoriously challenging.
It requires precise information on crop type and crop yield.
@esa has launched a (free) dataset that provides this information.
Here's what you need to know about it:

It is IMPOSSIBLE to not find a statistically significant link between any 2 random variables under multi-testing.
I generated 9 pairs of totally random variables, picked the highest R^2, and it beats what you see in papers.

How sensitive is the correlation coefficient to outliers? 🤔
Extremely sensitive! Even with 1,000 uncorrelated samples, just one extreme outlier can cause the correlation to approach 1.0! 😱
Correlation is a key tool in #DataAnalytics and #MachineLearning, but remember—80-90% of #DataScience is about exploring and cleaning the data before building any models! 🧹🔍
Check out this interactive @matplotlib #Python dashboard to see the effects of outliers on correlation: https://t.co/aajPHzH92I. For a detailed walk-through, watch the video here: https://t.co/dF9liDUgf7 ∀.
