I wonder how these diplomats report the briefings back home? Since there is no internet service in that country. I bet it’s either telegram or fax. Poor country leads by lunatic old men.
Foreign Minister Osman Saleh gave, today, a briefing on Ethiopia's unprovoked acts of aggression and its geopolitical ambitions to the Diplomatic Community in Asmara.
In his extensive briefing, FM Osman elaborated, with substantive details and evidences:
- the Ethiopian regime's repetitive and provocative pronouncements - by senior Prosperity Party political and military officials - for three long years on their belligerent strategy for acquiring "sovereign access to the sea";
- these ambitions and accompanied saber-rattling constituted a declaration of war against Eritrea in flagrant breach of the UN Charter and relevant provisions that prohibit the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of any UN Member State;
- the Prosperity Party regime continued to provide sanctuary, as well as military and logistical support, to an assortment of inconsequential opposition groups;
- the regime was further engaged in proxy military activities that fuel regional conflicts and exacerbate instability in the Horn of Africa.
EGYPT ― Parliament to Convene on Sunday to Authorize Al-Sisi to Deploy Troops to Saudi Arabia.
(MY OPINION): Some opportunities offer a chance to kill two birds with one stone. I’m not sure where our government's stands on this, but if the decision were mine, I’d make the naval and air base in #Assab available for the deployment. #SaudiArabia is an ally of #Eritrea, too.
You know that my go-to philosophers are footballers…😉 When the former Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves said, “modern football has no memory” I think he was talking about Ethiopian politics.

We should be grateful for the people and government of Djibouti. Sometimes, money itself can't buy anything unless there is a service provider.

To overcome its logistics challenges, Ethiopia is bringing in a new fleet of heavy-duty trucks, reinforcing the backbone of the nation’s transport and trade system.

🔴Hillary Clinton in Eritrea, March 1997: The Failed Push to Incorporate Eritrea into Washington’s Regional Client Order Like Rwanda,Kenya,Uganda,Ethiopia
The expectation was that Eritrea would become like Kenya,Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Uganda: regionally compliant, willing to deploy troops as requested, and obedient to neoliberal and aid-driven dictates imposed through USAID, the IMF, and the World Bank.
The Reality:
Between 1994 and 1998, the PFDJ under President Isaias Afwerki took shape after the dissolution of the EPLF, preceding the Washington-instigated war waged through Ethiopia. The collapse of the Soviet Union, along with the absence of global socialist allies, ushered in a neoliberal-dominated world order that compelled concessions on free markets, liberalized constitutionalism, and related measures. Although the Eritrean state made certain concessions during the Clinton administration and was encouraged to join Washington’s network of regional client states, it resisted full compliance, and war followed in 1998.
The so-called “war between Eritrea and Ethiopia” was, in reality, Washington’s war on Eritrea waged through Ethiopia, and must therefore be understood soberly within the wider context of Washington’s opposition to Eritrean non-compliance and to the threat posed by an alternative, self-reliant model existing outside the NGO-, USAID-, IMF-, and World Bank-based structures of dependency openly praised in states such as Rwanda and Uganda.
Opinion
When Ethiopia lost its sea access after Eritrea’s secession, Egypt was among the first countries to recognize Eritrea. Today, the same Egypt opposes Somaliland’s case and delivers moral lectures on the matter. Hypocrisy in foreign policy is often disguised as national interest.
