@EDTdunbar I dig your points about AI catering to the learner to support creativity. We've heard so many times across our EDT courses how students are inherently creative and how traditional teaching can stifle it. If used cautiously, AI could help reverse that trend. #wuedt6020
@Jill90772834992 I appreciate this perspective. It reminded me of how often the creative activities get pushed to the side for reteaching concepts or individual/ small group remediation. If AI can handle these tasks, that frees up that precious time for fun stuff students crave. #wuedt6020
@Jill90772834992 NoRedInk offers grammar and writing help that is scaffolded based on students' responses to tasks in the platform. Besides students receiving targeted instruction, NoRedInk also personalizes learning by allowing students to select the subjects/topics used for tasks. #wuedt6020
@mgodwin921 One major disadvantage of 1-1 devices relates to classroom management. I imagine how difficult it must be to monitor what students have on their screens during instructional moments when the teacher is not on their own device using GoGuardian or a similar app. #wuedt6020
@daphne_WU_EDT@mgodwin921@tompgavin Great tip about having students type using distinguishable font colors! Version History is still great, but I agree that this could save a little time in the end. #wuedt6020
@mgodwin921@tompgavin Thank you for reminding me about the awesome "Version History" feature to observe all learners' participation in group projects! Also, the 24/7 access to a project from anywhere and with multiple people is something I never imagined possible when I was their age. #wuedt6020
@cwicker001@tompgavin I love the idea of having students create book reviews and commercials using Flip. The platform also provides a great way to showcase their creativity and provide exemplars for future classes. #wuedt6020
I dig that Google Docs and Slides offer ways for students to work on an activity/task together with easy access--no need to crowd around chart paper or wait for your turn in order to contribute (as a result, no more ideas lost in the queue). #wuedt6020
@shelleykoon For sure! The most reliable data assessment is going to come from this human. As for creativity, I was thinking of a story chain activity. AI could add an element of surprise that could bolster critical thinking in completing the story arch. #wuedt6020
An emerging trend that I’d be interested in implementing in my room is AI enabled apps. As an English teacher, the possibilities are endless with AI to foster creativity as well as to target specific literacy skill deficits my students may experience while learning. #wuedt6020
@mgodwin921@tompgavin I love your idea of using virtual reality to explore science anywhere in the world. I wonder if VR also could be used to make labs more accessible. Certain parts of the experiment experience would be different but could still be impactful. #wuedt6020
@EDTdunbar So true that games keep students engaged and motivated! True for older learners, too. My challenge is making sure that the focus is on the learning objective and not the competition alone. The real win is mastery of the content, not my opponent. #wuedt6020
I'd like to change my topic to The Internet of Things. With so many devices now being connected to the internet, I'm interested in learning the implications for education. #wuEDT6020
Our kids are magic. We’ve got to design our public education system around investing in their brilliance. Annual standardized testing hamstrings our educators and takes away time from high quality, authentic teaching. That’s why I introduced my #MoreTeachingLessTesting Act.
