A laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a major operation with significant major potential complications, including mortality. Even as consultants, there is a great deal of scrutiny on the number of cases and the complication rate.
It is also an excellent training procedure for career surgical trainees who have been through 5 years at medical school and then at least 3 to 4 years before they are allowed to perform these cases.
They have also been through structured surgical training as well as completing basic surgical skills training and laparoscopic skills training and completed Part 1 and Part 2 MRCS.
These operations are NOT for the novice and should NOT be performed by anyone other than a trained surgeon or a surgeon in training with appropriate supervision AND only by qualified medical doctors.
We should not play with patients' lives.
This is unsafe and dangerous and needs to be stopped immediately.
The @RCSnews should have raised concerns during the peer review of this case series for publication.
I am astounded that the local ethical committee felt that approval was not necessary.
@WalsallHcareNHS need to stop this practice with immediate effect.
What the international community has allowed in Gaza will go down in history not only as a great shame for the whole of humanity, but as a turning point for the human race.
Being blind to genocide as it is carried out with impunity, turning our backs to the merciless slaughter of thousands of innocent children, refusing to step in while an entire nation starves and begs for help, while hospitals are bombed, doctors tortured and humiliated, and patients allowed to die, enabling an oppressive regime by offering its ships our ports, fuelling its inhumane rampage by providing it with more and more funding and arms - all this has now set a horrendous precedent.
All rules of justice, humanity and international decorum have been broken. Humanity has been bled, and each one of us will pay an unimaginable price for this some day unless we raise our voices and stand up for what is right today.🇵🇸
Yesterday, the ICJ found a plausible risk of genocide in Gaza.
Today, the UK has joined others in suspending funding to UNRWA.
This is collective punishment — our government should be ashamed of its moral depravity toward Palestinians starving to death.
The Gov, despite opposition from doctors, is pressing ahead with regulating PAs & AAs under the GMC. @ShabanaMahmood, as my MP, please oppose the draft Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates Order 2024 to protect patient safety
136 of our colleagues in Gaza have been killed in 75 days – something we have never seen in @UN history.
Most of our staff have been forced from their homes.
I pay tribute to them & the thousands of aid workers risking their lives as they support civilians in Gaza.

Do Palestinians not scream in agony as they watch their friends and family die?
Do Palestinian children not deserve to laugh and play with their friends at school?
Do Palestinian lives not matter?
To save what is left of our common humanity, we need a ceasefire now.
UN experts have warned that we are witnessing a genocide in the making.
Home by home, hospital by hospital, generation by generation, Palestinians are being wiped out before our very eyes.
MPs had the chance to demand a ceasefire. The majority chose to cheer on war instead.
This is what our politicians should be doing. Ireland you are lucky to have principled politicians like this. I am proud to have married into an Irish family. #PrimeMinister#Sunak take note - this is what you should be doing. #CeasefireInGazaNOW
Tomorrow, MPs will be voting on the call for a ceasefire in Gaza. It is a simple moral choice: do you support the indiscriminate killing of human beings, or do you want to stop the further loss of life?
In the aftermath of horror, we need voices for peace and diplomacy. Instead, our government has given the green light to unconscionable death and destruction.
I condemn the targeting of all civilian life. That includes the deplorable acts of terror by Hamas against Israeli civilians. And that includes acts of terror by the Israeli government against Palestinian civilians. More than 11,000 people in Gaza have been killed, almost half of whom are children.
Without a peaceful and political solution, this cycle of violence will go on and on, and it is the responsibility of members of Parliament to demand an end to the ongoing loss of life. We cannot become distracted from our overriding goal: to bring about freedom, justice and peace for all Palestinians and Israelis.
With every passing minute that the bombing continues, another human being is killed. This must end, now.
I will vote for a ceasefire tomorrow, and I will continue to demand the release of hostages, an end to the siege of Gaza, and an end to the occupation of Palestine. I urge colleagues to do the same.
Britain’s politicians (Labour and Tory) are supporting this slaughter and refusing to call for a ceasefire. They're not fit to hold public office.

In the past, people in Scotland and across the UK have opened our hearts and our homes.
Scotland is ready to play her part.
To be the first country in the UK to offer safety and sanctuary to the people of Gaza.
To treat the injured men, women and children, where we can.
🛑A matter of life and death: water runs out for 2 million people in Gaza
🛑 No humanitarian supplies have been allowed into Gaza for a week
“It is a must; fuel needs to be delivered now into📍#Gaza to make water available for 2 million people”

Israel launching a full-blown ground war in Gaza will massively increase the already awful civilian death toll. I understand the desire to wipe out Hamas after last week’s wicked terror attacks, but how can killing so many innocent Palestinians in the process be justified?
