Amb. Julia Imene-Chanduru, as Coordinator of the African Group on WIPO issues, underscored the importance of @_ARIPO and @OAPI_TWIT thanking them for being partners in diplomacy, engines of thought leadership, and guardians of the Groups collective IP interests.
It was a privilege to host and address ambassadors accredited to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, alongside our partners from @OAPI_TWIT and representatives of @WIPO, during a special luncheon convened at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
In my remarks, I reaffirmed ARIPO’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Africa’s intellectual property (IP) ecosystem as a cornerstone of sustainable development and regional integration.
Founded nearly five decades ago, ARIPO has grown into a dynamic platform that:
✅ Harmonizes regional IP laws and procedures
✅ Supports Member States with robust legal, digital, and institutional frameworks
✅ Champions innovation through capacity building, research collaboration, and the protection of #intellectualproperty
Together with OAPI and under the WAO tripartite partnership with WIPO, we are forging a unified IP front for Africa, focused on impact, digital transformation, and inclusivity.
🌍 As Africa moves forward, IP will be central to enabling cross-border trade, protecting local innovation, and stimulating creative industries.
It was an honour for ARIPO and OAPI to have the diplomatic community amidst us this afternoon. We encourage them to continue championing IP as a transformative tool—within Geneva and globally—for achieving Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Intellectual Property is the bridge between ideas and impact. Let us work together to ensure it becomes a driver of equitable growth for all Africans.

I had a productive meeting with Ms. Ainna Kaundu, Acting CEO of @bipa_nam, and her team on the sidelines of the 66th @WIPO General Assemblies. #WIPOGA
🇳🇦 Namibia made history in 2024 as the first @_ARIPO Member State to ratify the Kampala Protocol—demonstrating strong leadership in shaping Africa’s regional IP landscape.
We are inspired by Namibia’s bold vision, as reflected in its national statement at the Assemblies—especially the development of a new IP Strategic Plan and the prioritisation of the creative sector.
💡 We value Namibia’s steadfast support and look forward to deepening our collaboration to make IP work for the people of Namibia.
At the WIPO Assemblies the DG highlights the importance of building sustainable skills, capabilities and confidence. In Namibia🇳🇦, WIPO supports women entrepreneurs, a project which has morphed from a WIPO one-off project into a Ministerial program led by Namibians for Namibians.
Director General Daren Tang opens WIPO Assemblies, welcoming largest-ever delegate participation: https://t.co/Y6lFbvIyKo
Addressing some 1,600 registered delegates, Mr. Tang called for collective action to ensure that the global intellectual property ecosystem continues to evolve in supporting the world’s innovators and creators.
