Weirdly, Iranian embassy in Pretoria notified us, Ukrainian diplomats, about opening a book of condolences in memory of ayatollah Khamenei and the military leadership of Iran.

I decided to respond - and do it in a public way. The letter explains why.

Your Excellency,
Mr. Ambassador,

Since you notified the Embassy of Ukraine of the book of condolences for deceased Ayatollah Khamenei and Iran’s military leadership, I feel compelled to remind you the following.

As military allies of the Russian Federation, the deceased leaders of Iran had on their hands the blood of thousands of Ukrainian citizens – men and women, children and elderly – killed with the help of the infamous Iran-made “Shahed” drones and other military know-how so eagerly provided to Russia by your government. Your leaders were complicit in bringing endless grief to Ukrainian civilians.

Being a person of faith, I try not to rejoice in the death of other people, even those who chose to be tormentors of my country that did nothing bad to theirs. But as someone who has spent three years to the tune of Iran-created machines of death howling every night in the sky over Kyiv and other peaceful Ukrainian cities, I cannot help but wish for every culprit to meet the justice they deserve. If not by human law, then in the face of God Almighty.

Ambassador, I do not know you personally and have no grudge against you. Sometimes good diplomats must speak for bad leaders and their policies. But I hope you understand that I won’t express condolences for someone whose death I do not mourn.

Russian soldiers have systematically subjected Ukrainian women and girls to sexual violence – brutal assaults that leave deep physical and emotional scars.

Some women have been forced into sexual submission in front of entire Russian troops. The true scale is far higher than official reports suggest, as many victims cannot—or dare not—come forward under Russian occupation.

This is not random. It is a deliberate, systematic campaign of abuse across occupied Ukrainian territories.

The West cannot stay silent. Transitional justice—and a lasting peace—requires accountability.

The IPC allows Russian Paralympians to compete under the Russian flag without any filtering or vetting whatsoever.
This opens the door for Russian military personnel - including those wounded in the war in Ukraine who have killed Ukrainians - to participate, and gives them the opportunity to continue killing Ukrainians by spreading propaganda.
The head of the Russian Paralympic Committee has stated that more than 300 former military personnel have already joined the national teams.
The participation of other countries alongside such athletes = complicity in Russian propaganda.
The Olympic Movement is currently at its lowest point in many years. The IOC is betraying its own values. If this continues - the end of the IOC in its current form and the emergence of new organizations are quite possible.

⚡️ BREAKING: International Olympic Committee bans Ukrainian skeletonist's helmet honoring fallen athletes.

The IOC (@iocmedia) has banned Vladyslav @Heraskevych from using a custom helmet featuring images of Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia at the 2026 Olympics.

The skeletonist confirmed he is filing an official request for the IOC to reverse the ruling.

Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych wore a special helmet during his first training sessions on the Olympic track.

It features portraits of Ukrainian athletes killed during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine – in total, it’s over 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches.

Russia must be kept out of international sports as long as it continues the brutal aggression.

The IOC has banned the use of my helmet at official training sessions and competitions 💔

A decision that simply breaks my heart. The feeling that the IOC is betraying those athletes who were part of the Olympic movement, not allowing them to be honored on the sports arena where these athletes will never be able to step again.
Despite precedents in modern times and in the past when the IOC allowed such tributes, this time they decided to set special rules just for Ukraine.
We are preparing an official request to the IOC and will fight for the right to compete in this exact helmet.

His helmet bears portraits of our athletes who were killed by Russia. Figure skater Dmytro Sharpar, who was killed in combat near Bakhmut; Yevhen Malyshev, a 19-year-old biathlete killed by the occupiers near Kharkiv; and other Ukrainian athletes whose lives were taken by Russia’s war.

I thank the flag bearer of our national team at the Winter Olympics, Vladyslav Heraskevych, for reminding the world of the price of our struggle.

This truth cannot be inconvenient, inappropriate, or called a “political demonstration at a sporting event.” It is a reminder to the entire world of what modern Russia is.

And this is what reminds everyone of the global role of sport and the historic mission of the Olympic movement itself – it is all about peace and for the sake of life. Ukraine remains faithful to this. Russia proves the opposite.
