@toughcitywriter@hakaimagazine@judeisabella I am very sorry to hear this Adrienne. It’s a huge loss for Canadian environmental journalism. Hakai has been a world class contributor for the last decade.
When I cast my vote for President Biden, I wasn't expecting much. I just wanted trump out of office.
I knew he was old.
I knew he had a stutter.
I knew he had a rep for "gaffes."
I didn't care. Just wanted trump gone.
Four years later, things are different.
I wasn't expecting that President Biden would be the most legislatively successful President in my lifetime.
I wasn't expecting him to help expand NATO.
I wasn't expecting him to lower insulin & inhalers.
I wasn't expecting him to create & recover 15m jobs.
I wasn't expecting him to bring manufacturing back.
I wasn't expecting him to forgive student debt.
But he did ALL those things, and more.
He surpassed my expectations by a lot.
And he has more planned for 2025-2028.
He's not a master orator,
He doesn't move so smoothly
But neither did FDR from his wheelchair.
Meanwhile, trump is STILL a threat.
He wants to be a dictator.
He wants to stay out of prison.
He wants revenge on his enemies.
He wants to take away from the poor and middle class and give to the ultra wealthy.
His Project 2025 will enable a national abortion ban to criminalize women seeking safe and legal abortions.
His Project 2025 will take away the rights of our LGBTQ family and friends.
His Project 2025 will transform the government into a loyalty pledge, not to America but to him ALONE.
We might never have another free election.
THAT is what is at stake in this election.
We can continue to progress with Biden policies, or we can let trump destroy democracy as we know it.
If you're looking for someone who's young and athletic, go watch a fucking movie.
I'll take the old guy who needs a nap while saving democracy over the old guy trying to overthrow democracy who needs a legal team.
👋 Hey #SouthOkanagan! Big news for local students & renters as the BC Govt’ partners with @OkanaganCollege to create 101 new on-campus housing units. This will reduce barriers for students to pursue their education & increase housing supply for local renters. #InvestingInPeople
A new #Sitka program of travel and research grants to support independent science and environment reporters will shed light on what’s REALLY happening to BC’s biodiversity and seek solutions. Congrats to these winners!
The emissions cap must require the oil & gas industry to reduce its emissions by at least 40-45% by 2030 @JustinTrudeau / @CanadianPM. The worst polluting sector should not be held to a lower standard than the national goal #CDNpoli#COP28#EmissionsCap https://t.co/m3QRtuoZJv
Chicago — bright, glassy, located smack in the middle of a migratory flyway — may be the most dangerous American city for birds. For @bioGraphic, I wrote about the volunteers, biologists, and architects who are trying to make it safer. #longreads

While I won’t be running in the next election, I will keep working hard for my constituents until that time and thank them for the honour and privilege of representing them. https://t.co/XBKOy1CC18

I so enjoyed banding hummingbirds in BC with some old souls with hands as steady as jewelers working with precious gemstones. Made me happy - which is what hummingbirds do - they bring joy.

Hey @ben_a_goldfarb ! Look what arrived! Congratulations on this incredible new book. Thanks for featuring P-22 and the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. Can’t wait to host a booksigning for you! @101wildcrossing
My heart is full every time I visit the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing construction site. Mountain lions and wildlife are going to have a future in the area because we all came together to make this impossible dream happen. Thank you, team #SaveLACougars ! @101wildcrossing
It was hard to cram my impressions of Bhutan into 1500 words but did my best.
The bottom line: most of all I am grateful that a place like Bhutan still exists.
I'm SO excited to share that I will be a 2023 @LiberEroFellows Postdoc at @eebtoronto researching PAINT microplastics (because paints on roads, buildings, etc. are plastics, too!) with the rockstar team of @ChelseaRochman@NickMallos and Paul Helm!🤩
Now to wrap up my Ph.D.!!!
