I would like to express my gratitude to @DOJCD_ZA for inviting me to participate alongside Deputy Minister of Justice Mr. Andries Nel, Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission Commissioner Chris Nissen, Vice Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa Commissioner Jane Love, and other esteemed panelists at the Youth and the Constitution Dialogue hosted at Brigitte Mabandla Justice College. I had the privilege of addressing more than 200 youth delegates on the topic of Ethical Leadership as part of #FreedomMonth2025, reinforcing our dedication to the principles of South Africa's constitutional democracy. The primary goal of the dialogue was to educate young people about their constitutional rights and responsibilities, as well as to promote their involvement in democratic processes. This was a valuable opportunity for discourse among government, civil society, and business regarding the role of youth in shaping democracy.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our partner, @IDCSouthAfrica for their collaboration in supporting those affected by the floods in KZN. Together, we have made a difference by building 10 new homes, helping to restore dignity for these families. As the Collen Mashawana Foundation, we are committed to our ongoing work in KZN and throughout South Africa, where many elderly individuals, child-headed families, and people with disabilities live in dire conditions without access to housing, electricity, clean water, sanitation, education, and employment opportunities. We pledge to continue building our nation One Brick at a Time.

The second family to receive keys to a beautiful new home today was 75-year-old Ma’ Rose Ngidi and her five unemployed children, who had lost all their possessions in the floods and have faced years of hardship in rebuilding their lives. They found it difficult to trust our promise made a few weeks ago to assist them with a new home. However, today they can finally rest easier in a safe place they can call their own. This two-bedroom house includes a lounge, kitchen, and an indoor bathroom. It was handed over fully furnished, complete with beds, TVs, couches, dining tables, and chairs, among other items. Today marked a new beginning for the Phoswa family, who received a beautifully built home from CMF and IDC. Led by 70-year-old Masondo Phoswa and her grandchildren, the family lost their previous house in the 2021 floods and had almost given up hope. However, after meeting with them a few weeks ago, we committed to building them a new home. The house was handed over fully furnished and equipped with running water, electricity, ceilings, tiles, solar lights, and a water tank. We wish them all the best as they embark on the journey of rebuilding their lives. #collenmashawanafoundation #idc
