This is a really fun paper. The authors build a mathematical model to explain how the tulip breaking virus, or TBV, creates a stripe pattern on tulip petals.
The writing is elegant, and the paper combines history, mathematics, and lots of other good stuff. Recommend.
An incredibly comprehensive walkthrough of the protein folding NN RosettaFold-1. Exhaustively summarizes many components in RF1 & related NNs, such as how HMMs are used to make MSAs. Also great source for figs for PPTs. Link as fig b/c twitter's owner is a big baby
One thing I like about the Institute for Protein Design, in Seattle, is that they display models of their prior achievements at the entrance.
More research centers should have a "trophy room," just like sports teams. It may help students think more ambitiously, etc.
This is unreal! 🤯An AI-generated podcast about our AI-created model of the human nuclear pore complex. Whether you're a scientist or not, you have to hear this! Sound on! 🔊
If we built a neural network where the weights were lenses instead of vectors, for instance, and the input was light-shaped, the inference cost would be zero.
