Open Letter from Hindu Mandirs and Hindu Civic Organizations Across Canada: In view of the planned protests tomorrow, April 05 2026, outside Triveni Mandir (Brampton) and Lakshmi Narayan Mandir (Surrey), 30+ organizations have jointly called for the safety and security of Hindu temples and devotees across Canada.

So-called “peaceful protests” targeted towards temples have not remained peaceful; they have led to harassment, intimidation, and violence against Hindu Canadians, devotees, and temple management. The last protest in Brampton resulted in Hindu children, women, and seniors being injured, with serious concerns raised about the handling of the situation, including police conduct.

The collective and unified call from all organizations is simple and fundamental:
1. Hindu Canadians must feel safe when accessing their place of worship.
2. Temples exist for peace, prayer, reflection, and well‑being, not as venues for political intimidation or fear.
3. No one should feel unsafe while exercising their right to worship.

We call on @PeelPolice and @SurreyPolice to ensure safe, intimidation‑free premises and streets, and uphold accountability so that all communities can exercise their basic democratic right.

CoHNA condemns plans by SFJ to protest outside Hindu temples this weekend, especially given their past record of violence, including a medieval-style assault on Hindu devotees and invasion of temples on Nov 3, 2024. All too often, Hindu devotees, who just come to pray and seek spiritual connection, have encountered loud and abusive demonstrations at the very entrance to temples, in addition to violent imagery, glorification of terrorism and verbal harassment.

This is nothing but religious bigotry and targeted harassment that masquerades as “freedom of speech” and “political expression”. It must be noted that the @officialHinduCF also enjoys freedom of speech, and using the threat of physical protests against an entire community to silence one organization violates the very basic Canadian principle of fairness. We stand by the HCF’s right to VOICE their lawful opinions about the Khalistan movement, without fear of bullying and physical harassment.

CoHNA also acknowledges and welcomes the commitment by @PeelPolice to enforce Brampton’s 'Protecting Places of Worship from Public Nuisance Demonstrations By-law' (By-law 173-2024). By establishing a 100-metre safety zone around Triveni Mandir, @CityBrampton has finally recognized that the right to expression does not include the right to lay siege, either physically or psychologically, to a congregation. We call on @SurreyPolice and @CityofSurrey to similarly take immediate note and follow through with equivalent measures for @surreymandir.

We remind police and city authorities across the country to remain alert and ensure a smooth day, peaceful passage, and a positive experience for Hindu Canadians.

We stand resolute and unwavering.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US-based individual designated as a terrorist under Indian law, and his organization Sikhs For Justice, are calling for protests directly outside Triveni Mandir in Brampton and Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey on April 5, 2026.
We are calling this out for exactly what it is. Not a protest. Not free speech. Targeted intimidation of a religious minority community at their sacred places of worship, on Canadian soil.
Our temples are not protest sites. They are not political stages. They will not be surrendered to intimidation.

On November 3, 2024, at Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Khalistani extremists attacked women, children, elders, and peaceful devotees in broad daylight simply for practicing their faith. That was not spontaneous. It was not isolated.

CSIS has warned repeatedly that Canada-based Khalistani extremists represent a serious homegrown security threat. And yet here we are again, bracing for another deliberate provocation at our temples.

Sikhs For Justice claims to stand for justice. But what justice looks like to them is organizing intimidation campaigns outside minority places of worship, calling Hindus disloyal to Canada, and telling an entire community to leave the country.
That is not advocacy. That is Hinduphobia. That is extremism with a megaphone and a social media account.
We want to be absolutely clear. The vast majority of Canadian Sikhs are our neighbours, our colleagues, our family, and our friends.
This is about a fringe extremist network exploiting Canadian freedoms to threaten, intimidate, and silence Canadians.
Targeting a temple is not a protest. Disrupting worship is not free speech. Organizing a march to the doorstep of a house of prayer to threaten its congregation is coercion, plain and simple.
Parliament has moved to strengthen the law through Bill C-9 and related Criminal Code provisions. Bubble zones were introduced around Brampton temples after earlier attacks. These protections exist because this community has already been failed once. They must not be failed again.
We issue an urgent and direct call to law enforcement and all levels of government. Be present. Be visible. Be decisive. Enforce Criminal Code provisions on hate propaganda, intimidation, mischief to religious property, and public order offences. Ensure safe and unrestricted access to their places of worship for for every Canadian.
Canada's promise of pluralism is only meaningful if it is enforced equally for all communities. We will not be silent. We will not be moved. We will not be kept from our temples.
Enough is enough.

Hindu Canadian Foundation stands resolute and unwavering. In the face of yet another deliberate provocation by the #khalistani Extremists (#CBKE) organization, calling for protests directly outside Triveni Mandir in Brampton and Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey on April 5, 2026, we reaffirm our absolute right to worship freely and safely on Canadian soil.

Our temples are sacred spaces. They are not protest sites. They are not political stages. They will not surrender to intimidation.

On November 3, 2024, at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Khalistani extremists carried out what remains the most egregious and targeted act of violence against Hindu Canadians in recent history. In broad daylight, women, children, elders, and peaceful devotees were assaulted simply for practicing their faith. That attack was not spontaneous and not isolated. It is part of a pattern, a sustained campaign of Hinduphobia, harassment, and fear‑mongering aimed squarely at Hindu Canadians and their places of worship.

Let us be unequivocal: Targeting temples is not a protest. It is intimidation. Disrupting worship is not free speech. It is coercion.

These acts by #CBKE deliberately abuse Canada’s democratic freedoms. They are designed to provoke, to frighten, and to force communities into silence. This #khalistani extremism does not threaten Hindu Canadians alone; it erodes public safety, social trust, and the rule of law for all Canadians.

It is precisely because of such conduct that Parliament @OurCommons has moved to strengthen the law through measures such as Bill C‑9 and related Criminal Code provisions, making clear that intimidation, obstruction, and hate‑motivated targeting of places of worship have no protection under Canadian law. The introduction of protective bubble‑zone measures around temples in Brampton, following earlier Khalistani extremist attacks, further reflects a hard‑learned reality: sacred spaces must be shielded from harassment and extremist pressure.

HCF therefore issues a direct and urgent call to @PeelPolice @surreyps @rcmpgrcpolice @csiscanada
@Safety_Canada to act decisively and without hesitation. Enforce the full weight of the law. Prevent intimidation against Canadians. Apply Criminal Code provisions on hate propaganda, intimidation, mischief to religious property, and public order offences to ensure that Hindu Canadians and all Canadians can worship without fear on April 5, 2026, and every day thereafter.

Canada’s own intelligence assessments @csiscanada have repeatedly warned that Canada‑based Khalistani extremists constitute a serious homegrown security threat. Those who incite, organize, or carry out violence and targeted harassment must be identified, restrained, and held fully accountable.

Let there be no misunderstanding: We will not be silenced. We will not be intimidated. We will not be driven from our temples.

Hindu Canadians are a proud, peaceful, and integral part of this country. We stand firmly for pluralism, democratic values, and the rule of law, and we expect those values to be upheld without exception.

Our message is simple, firm, and final:

CoHNA welcomes the passage of Bill C-9 in the House of Commons (186-137) and looks forward to its review and vote in the Senate.

As @SenateCA debates and discusses this important piece of legislation, which seeks to strengthen Canada’s hate crime laws, we urge them to take cognizance of the growing Hinduphobia in Canada, particularly the attacks on dozens of Hindu temples in the last few years and the targeted hate and violence by CBKEs (Canada-based Khalistani Extremists) against Canadian Hindus. These groups have resorted to violent rhetoric and targeted threats preceding the actual acts of violence.

For years now, our community has struggled with the loud, graphic and often violent demonstrations at our temples that directly impact the experience of devotees seeking spiritual solace.
