We developed a novel statewide stochastic #weather generator for #California that simulates high-resolution #precipitation & #temperature data (1000-yr) to support water planning amid future climate uncertainties.

.@POTUS: Today, I send my best wishes to every American celebrating Nowruz.
Nowruz marks the start of the Persian New Year, celebrates the arrival of spring, and acknowledges the eternal triumph of light over darkness.

God bless the people of Iran who are risking their lives for freedom.
@POTUS stands with you, I stand with you, and thanks to @ElonMusk and @Starlink, the world is watching!
Our newest magazine is out! Learn more about how ABE is using AI, robotics and sophisticated modeling to shape the future of agriculture. https://t.co/ZLwakxeZ8i
Dr. Young Gu Her and I at University of Florida are recruiting a Ph.D. student on "Reclaiming Legacy Phosphorus from Lake Okeechobee for Sustainable Agriculture and Ecosystem Restoration" starting in Fall 2025 (details in the attachment). Application is due on 02/28/2025. Thanks.
Classes start next week, but learning is already happening for some new UF faculty! Spent the day exploring Florida agriculture with stops at @wecequestrian, @UFMREC and a @UF_IFAS Extension office. Looking forward to the semester ahead!
Job Alert! Please help spread the word! I’m looking to recruit one or two Ph.D. students to join my Hydrological Extremes Lab @okstate in Spring 2024 or Fall 2025. See more information below:

I'm so excited to share our latest paper which is open access in @EarthsFutureEiC! In this study, we investigate the role of natural variability and climate change in driving flood and drought variability in the San Joaquin Valley of CA. 🧵

...This helps us predict if there might be widespread floods across the country in the future.
The broader goal of this work is to provide a foundation for evaluating the potential impact of combined risks from extreme events in any country or region (3/3) https://t.co/cEYFn2D55e
We investigated why 10- or 100-year floods occur in different parts of the US in the same year & how they are connected. We found a connection between floods in various regions, showing a pattern across the Northeast, Central, West, & Northwest at the same time (1/3)
Our research on compound flood hazards is published in @theAGU GRL. We develop the first-of-its-kind continental portfolio risk estimates at the 10- and 100-year return levels using a non-parametric copula.

We also modeled the chances of such combined flood losses across the country & identified key patterns in the ocean and atmosphere leading to these 'spatially compounding extreme events' —at the same time but at different locations (2/3)
Here, we explore the practical applications of this tool for #climate#vulnerability assessment, e.g., how it contributes to a better understanding of thermodynamic & dynamic climate #changes, shedding light on how it is used to develop #flood & #drought scenarios.

If you are interested in weather-regime based stochastic weather generation, @NasserNajibi and I have written a guide on where/why/how to use this generator. There is an official GitHub repo now with demo code: https://t.co/32kbu56JSW
