With the severe weather winding down, we're collecting as many storm reports as possible. To help us focus on our storm surveys, we're looking for any potential damage reports from this afternoon/tonight's storms. Appreciate any information. Pic from Walworth Co EM. #wiwx
Flood survivors in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Washington counties can now apply for FEMA Assistance.💻
▶️Apply now at https://t.co/QjZXWABvZF.
If you need further assistance, call the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-3362📱
🚨 Starting today, August 21, residents may see @fema teams in your neighborhoods working with State and County emergency personnel to assess storm and flood damage.
These assessments are a critical step in the FEMA process that could lead to federal assistance for residents, but this visit is about verifying the disaster’s impact on our community, not handing out assistance yet. Not every home that reported damage will need an in-person visit, so you do not need to be home for FEMA to complete their work. Additionally, eligibility for any possible future federal assistance is NOT dependent on you speaking with FEMA during this visit.

Saturday's flooding was easily a 1 in 1000 year rainfall event for Milwaukee. In fact, 14" of rain over a 20 day period is a 1 in 1000 year rain event for MKE.
Places saw that much rain in 4-6 hours.
A 1 in 1000 year event means the chance it happens in any given year is .1%.
🚨 Milwaukee County State of Emergency 🚨
@DavidCrowleyWI has declared a state of emergency following severe flooding, with more rain expected today. An Emergency Operations Center is coordinating response efforts.

Here is tonight's science lesson. Why is the smoke so thick along the lakeshore and over the lake? Answer: The Marine Layer. The Marine Layer is the cooler layer of air just above the lake (caused by the cool lake water) that is trapping the Canadian wildfire smoke. When the wind blows in off of the lake, it'll blow some of that smoke inland as well. This is why the Air Quality Alert now runs until Noon on Friday.
Look at Downtown Milwaukee this afternoon. Surface-based wildfire smoke is leading to poor air quality. One of the worst air qualities in the world right now. Expect low air quality through noon on Thursday.
⚠️ Generational Flooding Possible
This isn’t routine. This is a rare, high-impact, and potentially devastating event. Heavy rainfall will likely lead to widespread river, flash, and areal flooding that could cause severe disruptions especially along and north of I-40.
‼️A multi-day severe weather outbreak is expected in the Mississippi Valley into the Lower Ohio Valley this afternoon into Saturday and through the Central Gulf states on Saturday. Significant tornadoes, widespread damaging winds, and large hail are likely.
Prepare now. Think about where you would go in a warning, wherever you are: work, home, school, etc.

Hi all. Breaking my Twitter silence to make a statement on behalf of myself here. NOAA, the parent agency of the @NWS indiscriminately fired a number of employees yesterday. A thread of comments & advice for those fired. 1/18
California is receiving incredible support from Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Nevada in the battle against wildfires. These out-of-state resources are essential in helping to mitigate these fires and protect lives and property.
Available through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a national agreement enabling states to share resources during disasters, this collaboration has been instrumental in ensuring that essential personnel, equipment, and support are readily accessible when needed.
