Parents, please model for your children how to properly wear face masks. Also, parents, please wear face masks.
Signed,
A teacher, thinking about school in the Fall.
Teachers are like flight attendants. When turbulence occurs, our students are looking at our demeanor, what we say, and what we do, to inform how they should respond. The world is real rocky right now — what are you showing your students?
Three years ago, @pennykittle and I created book clubs for our HS students around the theme of social justice. Here were the titles we selected at that time. Any suggestions for updating the list?
If you teach Black kids, it is your responsibility to spark conversations with them (and your colleagues) about race. If you don’t teach Black kids, it is your responsibility to spark conversations with your students (and your colleagues) about race. Discomfort is no excuse.
With no standardized testing, it would be refreshing for us to not view students as statistics now but as young people with talents, passions, and purpose.
I love that so many teachers are providing flexible deadlines and resubmissions because of the chaos and trauma kids are facing right now. I would also encourage teachers to extend this practice once things are "normal," because chaos and trauma aren't isolated to the pandemic.
This.
Know your privilege - especially if you are a teacher. Your students’ wellbeing depends on it. Your capacity to empathize and love is more important than your ability to teach math, reading, or any other content right now.

Remember when they said we need state tests & report cards because otherwise teachers & principals would slack off?
Well, testing & state report cards are canceled and all I see are teachers & principals working harder than ever before.
Let’s trust our professionals.
@JuliePJones@calm We appreciate you so much! We have the best helping us through this hard time while becoming the best educators we can be. This is such a learning experience for everyone!
I love sitting in on @JuliePJones classes I’ve already taken because she’s always incorporating new things! I learn something new every time! What can’t JJ teach me?! #conversechat#DeafEddies
I’m a teacher in a rural SC school who needs more books for her classroom library. My goal is to put a book in front of every student they actually WANT to read. Please help by sharing this list and giving if you can! #books#highschoolteacher#engteacher

(I was inspired by @MrBedfordsClass’s beautiful exploding books (or “squash books”) & made them with my class today but couldn’t find a clear enough tutorial! Tried to make my own below...)
