Make Standard Time permanent.
Permanent DST was tried in 1974 and it failed. I am fine with the sun “rising” early in the morning. Blackout curtains are a thing lazy people forget exist.
Then, while y’all are at it, pass a balanced budget and quit racking up the debt.
@OxfordYazuka@profstonge Umm… last I checked, it’s usually dark outside by the time elementary school kids are going to school and starts getting lighter by the time school starts for them and high school kids are going to school. So, unless you have a solution… Standard Time is the way to go
@J_D_Sarfati3@profstonge Only way I’d be on board with North Dakota making the change or Minnesota making the change is if the other state does the exact same thing. If Minnesota decides to do year round Standard Time, then the North Dakota should also do year round Standard Time
@bigasswillie@svdate Even though changing a clock has no effect… still doesn’t change the fact that sunrise during the winter if we have year-round daylight savings time is going to be later. Besides, there’s not a whole lot of options during the winter anyway, so keeping DST would be pointless
@RTower39@Caraloveslife1@svdate Even though that’s true, pretty sure they won’t like the below zero temperatures & the wind chills that make it feel like Antarctica
@llbuythat@BritaEngh@svdate Even though that’s true during the winter, I’m quite certain if they really need to… they can arrange something with a friend/family member to give them a ride home. If they can’t arrange something… get them a bus pass and tell them what route & bus stop they need to get home
@psttome86@svdate Okay and? I hated that it was dark at 5pm as well, however I’d rather keep Standard Time year round considering there’s nothing much to do during the winter. If that means we get an earlier sunrise in the summer, I’d be fine with that
Stupid, stupid bill.
Kids in northern states, particularly in places further east in their time zones, will be walking and waiting for the morning bus in the dark.
If changing your clock is so burdensome, fine. Go to year-round standard time.
The House passed the Sunshine Protection Act 308-117 and now goes to the Senate. This Bill would make Daylight Saving Time permanent.
What does that look like for the area if it were to pass in the Senate?
Here’s the latest sunrises across the Midwest:
