#Mets relief prospect Grant Hartwig has been promoted to Double-A Binghamton.
The 24-year-old has moved quickly since signing as an NDFA in 2020. This year between St. Lucie and Brooklyn: 30 IP, 45 K, 2.40 ERA, 10/10 saves.
Always fun working with other high level catchers that have a slightly different receiving style. There’s no such thing as a one size fits all approach and even when using similar techniques, each individual can approach things their own way and have success. @BigCookie05
Excited to announce that I have committed to The Ohio State University! Thank you to all of my coaches and teammates that have helped me get to this point! @OhioStateBASE@Bill_Mosiello@greggwallis19
Trying to work the glove back to a consistent spot after a good set up pitch here to make them blend together.
-Clear strike(stick it)
-Borderline ball/strike(small move through)
-Ball down(rip hard through it)
Can be tough not to call the last one a strike after the first two
Pretty cool receiving comparison here.
Before:
-Working down to the ball
-Trying to “stick” the pitch
Now:
-Good glove load
-Using momentum up through the ball
-Solid at contact and snaps to extension
Perfectly said here! For some reason, a lot of people right now don’t understand that there’s more than one way to do things behind the plate. Catchers need multiple tools in their belt and the one they choose at any given time is what best fits their strengths/situation.
I have no dog in this fight. It’s all about the best approach 4 each player. There R those who refuse 2 accept the fact that some C's can throw &/or block as well or better from a KD stance. Here R 2 C's throwing on BB's away from a RHH. The C in the traditional 2 point stance
Old School vs. New School Round 3 (Glove load edition)
A proper glove load allows us to create momentum back to the zone as we work through the ball. A static glove start typically forces a stab down at the ball which creates two separate motions.
Blocking comparison of different locations with each set up.
Still personally a bigger fan of blocking from two feet but knee down stances can be more versatile than people give them credit for.
5. Your greatest ability for your team is your availability. Prioritize recovery and take care of your body. You have to understand it’s a really long season and if you want to be there at the end you have to stay healthy.
With the summer baseball/softball seasons starting up, I want to share some tips/suggestions I learned over my career that helped me navigate physically demanding seasons (not in any particular order):
4. Plan out what food you need to bring to the field. Don’t get caught up last minute trying to find food because you’ll end up settling for something quick and not good for you. What you put in your body everyday will effect you in the long run.
Lots of hard put in to get to this point for the baseball season opener today and softball opener next week!!
Big seasons coming up for everyone and more work yet to be done💪🔥
