Following a high school football game in Sherman, Texas, Sherman High School player Gage Smith noticed his opponent, Ty Jordan of West Mesquite High School, was carrying a heavy burden.

Smith had learned that Jordan's mother had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and wanted to do something more meaningful than simply shake his hand.

After the game, Smith walked over, placed a hand on Jordan's shoulder, and asked if he could pray with him. The two rivals knelt together on the field, putting competition aside to pray for Jordan's mother, his family, and strength during their difficult time.

The heartfelt moment was captured in a photograph by the Sherman coach's wife and quickly spread across the internet, inspiring millions. Smith later said he wasn't looking for recognition—he simply wanted Jordan to know that he and his family were not alone.

It was a reminder that true sportsmanship isn't just measured by points on a scoreboard, but by compassion, empathy, and standing beside someone when they need it most.

My son is a 9th grade teacher and today he gave his students 3 options for their grades for the semester.

The first option he called capitalism. Each kid gets whatever grade they earn based on effort and merit. They are all taught and tested in the same manner.

The second option was socialism. They are all taught and tested in the same manner. All the grades are gathered at the end and then he takes points away from the achieving students and gives them to the ones who are struggling to lift them up, bringing the achieving students grade down.

The third option was communism. He figures out what each kid is capable of and makes them work according to the ability level he determines. Some get easy classes and tests, others get very difficult ones, and at the end he hands out the exact same grade to everybody no matter how they performed.

Penn State baseball published their 2026-27 roster on Tuesday, here are some takeaways:

-38 players on the roster. 34 is the NCAA limit, but they had 39 last season so we’ll see what happens.
-Genei Sato, widely expected to go pro in 2027, is listed as a senior anyway.

Those kids now follow the money. I’d assume CSUF has to live off so cal bounce backs or Juco. Possible just not easy to do..

@SoftballPortal So they left and were not able to land a D1 spot. Most likely as with lots of young athletes, they are talented but skill level is somewhere else. Go where you can compete and not watch!! You only get a few years to do so

@JaredB_BSBL 12u …. On a summer baseball vacation. Hit the pool and heck with the coach. Now if the kids were acting up on the field then you chose the wrong kids for your program for a check. You can develop and “ coach “ at practice and hold accountability at that time .

@tromblybaseball If a coach wins from a mid-major and makes a little run at the post season does he talk to larger schools interested for a better opportunity. The answer is yes. It’s the new way. Coaches have done it for years. Now players are using the same system for better opportunities.
