Panorama spent seven months undercover in the Met. We've cut all of that down to 59 seconds: the journalist admitting he saw countless police officers doing an excellent job in the toughest of circumstances.
Because thatโs the reality. Policing is about extraordinary individuals doing incredible work in impossible situations. The police are the public and the public are the police. Theyโre not higher beings. Theyโre people from every walk of life who put in an application for a job. Yes, itโs a job with huge responsibility, but itโs still drawn from the same pool of society as every other workforce. And that means youโll see the good, the bad, and the ugly reflected within it.
The best vetting in the world wonโt tell you what someone might say when theyโre in a pub with a journalist asking leading questions. Not that that excuses behaviour shown in the programme for one second. What was said was shameful and beneath the standards of any decent human being, let alone a police officer. But every time something like that is aired, it makes the job so much harder for everyone else who still has to walk out the door and put on the uniform the next day.
And of course, what youโll never see is a journalist spending seven months undercover just to show you the good. You wonโt see them filming officers comforting victims of domestic violence, or taking a neglected child to McDonaldโs because they havenโt eaten in days, or holding the hand of someone dying in a road traffic collision, or knocking on a door at 3am to tell a wife and children that daddy isnโt coming home. You wonโt see them filming a van full of officers, young and old, big and small, driving at midnight into the middle of a pub fight, knowing full well they could be hurt but going anyway so that others donโt.
Thatโs the reality of policing. And itโs worth remembering, whatever the headlines, that the vast majority are out there trying to do good in a world that doesnโt often want to see it.

@Ophelia66353394@SkippityDooooo Absolutely. Unfortunately the people with the big platforms are just shouty, nasty and not willing to properly engage. I never really trusted what they spewed out. I really hope that no matter what the courts rule, you can live the life you want, peacefully.
@Ophelia66353394@SkippityDooooo Thanks so much. I think the more reasonable people who just donโt know where they stand in all this are just scared to ask questions in case offence is caused. So I really appreciate yoour openness.
@Ophelia66353394@SkippityDooooo Sorry to be a pain to ask, but what counts as medical transition? I think many people like myself donโt know. Weโve just been told that if someone says they are a specific gender and they are trans, it should just be accepted. Thatโs what makes this not straight forward for some
@Ophelia66353394@SandyConnell765@AidanCTweets Thanks for the reply. Iโll be honest, I really donโt know what the answers are. Iโve tried following both sides (I hate that there are sides) of the argument but it often feels so hard to follow due to the hostility from the high profile accounts talking about it. Thanks so much
@fdarena@Sugababes Do you have the times that the support acts and the Sugababes come on stage please? Travelling a fair distance and needing to plan ahead. Thanks
@DrinkRobinsons your Lemon & Lime cordial is lovely, really thirst quenching, but we can only get it in the 66ml minis. The Lemon dilutable just isnโt the same. Any idea where I can get my hands on a bigger bottle, or if you donโt do them, why not and could you start please?
nothing but issues with @virginmedia since taking over my deceased fathers account in April. Talking to customer services but on the verge of crying. Going through the worst time of my life, they are making it worse. I may have to pay ยฃ1300 just to leave them for them own sanity
@TicketmasterCS@_Jay1988@TicketmasterCS this isnโt working for me either. Tried what you suggested but the same screen as everyone else. no where to paste the code I have. Itโs like the link we are clicking is for the wrong place. For it to be happening to so many people would suggest there is a problem
@cultbeauty I ordered a product from you, but unfortunately the box was broken. I contacted you via your website just to arrange a return. Your team responded really quickly and arranged for a replacement to be sent straight away. Thank you so much. Fab customer service
@Nestle must say extremely disappointed with my kit Kat today. All 4 fingers just solid chocolate all the way through. Not a great way to start my break #FirstWorldProblems
