@Hammy_CP Hi Chris, I would advise contacting Swift Conservation, London group and the London Wildlife Trust for assistance. If you struggle with these I can give more links and advice.
Thanks to Paul Stevens Ecological Services for building and installing our new owl box. The box replaces one of our older, well-used nest boxes in the Wetland Discovery area. We'll be watching and checking it for owlets in the ringing season.
@NatterjackPaul
Big hedges have more flowers, fruits & nuts to sustain wildlife, they store more carbon in the wood & below ground, they improve soil health & provide food & nutrients for cattle. There's no reason to trim them annually. Making this one change could transform our countryside 🌳
@ukhousemartins @JonathanMPomroy I have seen this behaviour when the nest in question is just about to or in the process of fledging it’s young. It seems the rest of the colony and birds from neighbouring colonies come to encourage the youngsters out.
@CathHodsman Interesting interaction with a wasp in the garden today. It came around us because we were drinking cider but then diverted almost immediately to some flowering wild carrot. Grow the wild flowers and even more sweet nectar to be had!
