@timblor @PaleoStahl @ch_gruetze @Stef_EQ_Geology If it's useful, there's some second-hand description of opening of a fissure here:

They might annoy you, when your favourite woollens are full of holes, but Isabel Novick @LetsTalkTineids explains beautifully why we should appreciate the noble clothes moth, an evolutionary wonder :

These trails are left by TINY caterpillars living *inside* leaves. Inside the caterpillar lives a bacteria. The bacteria causes the caterpillar to emit a hormone in its spit, which keeps the leaf green. It stops autumn in its tracks until it emerges. Nature is MINT😍 #Autumnwatch
@Bertonemyia Beautiful! But where there's one, there's a dozen, from my experience. Easy to find when those expensive plants fall over from having all their roots eaten...
Answer: false! Like some crocodiles, the megapodes are mound nesters, meaning they bury their eggs and let environmental heat incubate them. They carefully attend to the nest and adjust the amount of covering as necessary to achieve the right temp.

@RemiTailleux@an_amores@UniRdg_Met Antiphase? Do you mean the inverse of adiabatic compression and decompression? That would be really interesting to this non-atmospheric scientist. Could it be vertical displacement of a temperature inversion?

@CrawliesWithCri @wizentrop@Ibycter @Bertonemyia Pretty sure (?) this is a more mature stage nymph - Reduve Masqué here in France. Complete with embarrassing household mess.
Explains why we've had no flour mites in the kitchen this year.
January 2, 1860, French astronomer Urbain Le Verrier announced the discovery of Vulcan, a hypothetical planet inside Mercury orbit. Despite the lack of reliable observation, Le Verrier was convinced until his death that he had discovered a new planet 🌋
