Fall color was as good as it gets this year in many Adirondack Park locations. Colors were peak from valley floor to summits on our 10/4 High Peaks area photo tour - light and clouds added unique photo ops in the Keene area.
4 photos from a fairly quick stop at Rogers Rock Campground, Lake George, on my way back from Mt Philo on Sunday morning. It's hard to beat beautiful clear skies with sunlight on the fall color and shimmering on the clear lake water.

The federal energy regulator, led by a Trump appointee, is reviewing an application for an underwater AI data center in Alaska's Cook Inlet.
Among the first of its kind in American waters.
350 turbines. 66 server "hives." Sunk into the seafloor.
Only about 330 endangered belugas are left in Cook Inlet, down from roughly 1,300 in 1979. The Center for Biological Diversity says the site would sit inside their critical habitat.
They can't see through the glacial silt, so they talk, and they click to find food. Mothers and calves use a special call to stay in touch, and scientists say ship noise can drown it out.
The Center for Biological Diversity warns that noise from building and running those turbines could disrupt how belugas feed and communicate, and push them out of habitat they need.
It's not just the whales. A commercial fishing group says DeepGreen never studied the impact on the 1,300+ active fishing permits in Upper Cook Inlet.
DeepGreen's parent company was formed in January 2026. It has no public website, and its Delaware filings don't say who owns it.
The Alaska Energy Authority says DeepGreen never even contacted them, despite the company claiming ties to the state's own power grid project, and called facts in DeepGreen's filing "dead wrong." Regulators also found DeepGreen never notified the city of Kenai or identified the tribes and Alaska Native corporations affected. DeepGreen fixed it a week later, only after regulators flagged it.
At this point, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is only deciding whether to let DeepGreen study the site. And even past surveys in Cook Inlet needed federal permission to disturb them. As far as the reporting shows, DeepGreen doesn't have it.
The belugas can't speak up in this review. You can. Tell the commission to deny this application.

This polar bear died of starvation in its homeland, which is supposed to be teeming with prey. Photographer and biologist Paul Nicklen, who has spent more than 30 years in the Arctic, says that during most of those years he only came across one dead polar bear, and then within just two weeks his team found two that had died of starvation. Polar bears rely on sea ice to hunt seals, and with rising temperatures and receding ice, the search for food becomes longer and more difficult, potentially ending with some of them dying of hunger.
Star tracks, a meteor, town lights on low clouds, and faint satellite tracks in the pre-dawn sky over the eastern Adirondacks and Champlain Valley Sunday morning 10/18/26.
@EsperJohnathan I know - lots of places I've wanted to get to in the eastern HP especially. Before that though I'd like to finish the 46 to see what each of the remaining ones are like. Wish I had the time again to explore the way I did in my 20's. :)
Join me next Saturday, 10/24/26 from 3-11 PM for an afternoon of photography, followed by an evening photographing the trolls with headlamps under the stars and moonlight at The Wild Center. Details at https://t.co/7Rvjs1Esow
“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah.
Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah.
Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah.
"The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him.
Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.
The Washington Post just obtained the internal donor list for President Trump’s ballroom, and there’s one big red flag I wasn’t expecting.
It involves Julio Herrera Velutini, an international banker indicted in 2022 on bribery charges tied to Puerto Rico’s former governor.
After the 2024 election, his daughter gave $3.5 million to a pro-Trump super PAC.
His charges were reduced to a misdemeanor in August 2025.
The next month she pledged $2.5 million to the ballroom and paid the first $835,000 in October.
In January, Trump pardoned him.
That’s just the latest revelation. The other ballroom donor info shows $333 million steered into a White House account the president directly controls, with at least $77 million coming from donors who asked to stay hidden. About half the money came from companies or executives with federal contracts.
This whole thing is rotten to the core.

Overnight, the Russians used 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions against our energy and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike specifically against energy infrastructure – the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President. The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale – Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States. Russia does not consider the American President’s statements strong. Unfortunately, at least 600,000 people are now without power. Outages could become even more widespread. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to facilities and equipment – at 26 facilities of our power system and four facilities in the oil and gas sector. I am grateful to the repair crews, all Ukrainian energy workers, and the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for all their efforts to address the aftermath of this Russian strike. Tragically, there have been fatalities and injuries.
We ask America and EVERYONE in the world who does not turn a blind eye to reality to respond – and to respond forcefully. Russia has squandered the opportunity for de-escalation and has clearly chosen to continue its insane war of annihilation. We ask President Trump to impose STRONG sanctions on Russia, especially since the Lindsey Graham bill, which was recently passed and signed into law, authorizes and regulates such measures. The American President has all the effective and necessary tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor. We ask for additional packages of Patriot missile interceptors for Ukraine. It is entirely fair for us to tell the United States, Europe, and all our partners that no country in the world should be left alone to face such a deranged and pro-war actor as Russia. I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine! Peace can only come through strength, and we ask America to remember this principle of Reagan’s. Glory to Ukraine!
❗️Last night, the operation of Starlink terminals in Ukraine was restricted.
Connectivity began to drop when moving at speeds exceeding 160 km/h. As a result, a number of critical missions were disrupted.
SpaceX likely took these measures at the request of the Trump administration. Also last night, when Kyiv was attacked by ballistic missiles, Ukraine did not receive intelligence regarding their launch— a failure that could have led to higher casualties.
Ukraine did not attack Russian oil refineries, yet Trump has already begun imposing sanctions on my country. Meanwhile, sanctions against Russia have been eased.
