When 102-year-old World War II veteran Wally King asks you to have a beer at the Stop Bar in Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy, you have a beer (or two) with Wally King at the Stop Bar in Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy. What an honor! Wally flew 75 combat missions in the Second World War in P-51 Mustangs and P-47 Thunderbolts. He was shot down in April of 1945, parachuting out of his P-47 over Germany and becoming a POW before then evading both German and Soviet forces on his way to freedom. Legend!
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to Normandy with Wally three times for D-Day commemoration events with the Best Defense Foundation over the past few years. We always have a blast! 🇺🇸
Hospice nurses say there is a quiet moment that happens in the minutes before someone dies, and most families sitting right there in the room do not recognize it until it has already passed. It is not dramatic, it is not loud, and it looks almost like nothing at all if you do not know what you are seeing or what to look for. Nurses who have sat with hundreds of patients at the end of life describe it as one of the most profound and tender things they witness in their entire careers. The hardest part is that most families only find out what that moment was after the fact, during grief, when it is too late to go back and be fully present for it. You deserve to know what to look for before you are sitting in that room, not after you have already left it. Share this with anyone who has a loved one in hospice care or who is walking alongside someone in their final days.

Horner Park Natural Area offers beautiful trails, native plantings & views of the Chicago River & sky that could convince wealthy misers to hand out $100 bills like they were nickels & make the Grinch change his plans about Christmas

Jennifer Welch: “Boycott every fucking thing on CBS News. From the morning all the way through to the evening. These are the same people that fired Stephen Colbert because Trump got his feelings hurt by a comedian. These people are the biggest bunch of pussies that masquerade with these grandstanding letters like they’re such badasses. These people don’t care about the truth, they don’t care about journalism, they don’t care about the Constitution, they don’t care about a free press. It’s just absolutely devastating what these oligarchs have done to our country”

I enjoyed a great 5-mile hike today at Cap Sauers Holding Nature Preserve on this unseasonably warm March day and saw two red-headed woodpeckers, many sandhill cranes, and some minnows. No frogs and snakes yet. You can read more about this nature gem at https://t.co/slVWqu9ZJe.
