Maar we zijn hier samengekomen om te praten over veiligheid. Normaal gesproken bedoelen we dan externe bedreigingen, en ik zie hier vele militaire leiders die zich met dergelijke kwesties bezighouden. De regering-Trump is uiteraard bezorgd over de veiligheid van Europa en gelooft dat een redelijke oplossing tussen Rusland en Oekraïne mogelijk is. Tegelijkertijd is het cruciaal dat Europa de komende jaren een grotere rol speelt in zijn eigen defensie.

Toch is de dreiging die mij het meest zorgen baart geen externe vijand zoals Rusland of China. Wat mij werkelijk bezighoudt, is de interne dreiging: het feit dat Europa zich steeds verder terugtrekt van enkele van zijn meest fundamentele waarden—waarden die het met de Verenigde Staten deelt.

Onlangs zag ik een voormalig Europees commissielid op televisie juichen over het feit dat de Roemeense regering een volledige verkiezing had geannuleerd. Hij waarschuwde zelfs dat, als de dingen niet volgens plan verliepen, hetzelfde in Duitsland kon gebeuren. Zulke achteloze uitspraken zijn schokkend voor Amerikaanse oren. Jarenlang werd ons verteld dat alles wat we financierden en steunden, in naam van onze gedeelde democratische waarden gebeurde. Maar als Europese rechtbanken verkiezingen annuleren en hoge functionarissen dreigen andere verkiezingen te schrappen, moeten we ons afvragen of we nog wel de juiste standaarden hanteren.

Binnen het collectieve geheugen van velen in deze zaal vond de Koude Oorlog plaats. Toen stonden de verdedigers van de democratie tegenover tirannieke krachten op dit continent. Bedenk eens: welke kant in die strijd censureerde dissidenten, sloot kerken en schrapte verkiezingen? Waren zij de goeden? Zeker niet. En gelukkig hebben ze de Koude Oorlog verloren.

Vrijheid kan niet worden opgelegd, net zoals innovatie of creativiteit niet kunnen worden afgedwongen. Je kunt mensen niet verplichten om iets te denken, te voelen of te geloven. En dat alles is met elkaar verbonden. Daarom baart het mij zorgen wanneer ik kijk naar het Europa van vandaag. Wat is er gebeurd met de overwinnaars van de Koude Oorlog?

In Brussel waarschuwen EU-commissarissen burgers dat ze sociale media zullen uitschakelen tijdens periodes van maatschappelijke onrust als zij vinden dat er ‘haatdragende inhoud’ wordt gedeeld. In dit land heeft de politie onlangs invallen gedaan bij burgers die ‘anti-feministische’ opmerkingen online hadden geplaatst. In Zweden is een christelijke activist veroordeeld omdat hij deelnam aan een Koranverbranding, wat leidde tot de moord op een vriend. En in het Verenigd Koninkrijk wordt een man veroordeeld voor de misdaad van… stil bidden.

Adam Smith-Connor, een fysiotherapeut en voormalig soldaat, stond op 50 meter afstand van een abortuskliniek en bad stilletjes gedurende drie minuten. Hij blokkeerde niemand, hij sprak met niemand. Toen de Britse politie hem vroeg waarvoor hij bad, antwoordde hij eenvoudigweg: voor de ongeboren zoon die hij en zijn ex-vriendin jaren eerder hadden geaborteerd. De agenten waren niet onder de indruk. Hij werd veroordeeld op grond van de nieuwe ‘buffer zone’-wet en moest duizenden ponden aan juridische kosten betalen.

Helaas was dit geen eenmalige fout. In oktober begon de Schotse regering brieven te verspreiden aan burgers die binnen deze ‘buffer zones’ wonen, waarin stond dat zelfs privégebed in hun eigen huis mogelijk een overtreding van de wet zou zijn. Vrijheid van meningsuiting is in Europa in de verdediging gedrukt.

Maar laat ik eerlijk zijn: ook in mijn eigen land kwamen de luidste roepingen om censuur vaak uit onze eigen regering. De vorige Amerikaanse regering zette techbedrijven onder druk om zogenaamde ‘desinformatie’ te censureren—zoals het idee dat COVID-19 uit een laboratorium in China zou zijn gelekt. Achteraf bleek dat idee juist.

Daarom kom ik hier vandaag niet alleen met observaties, maar met een aanbod. Onder president Trump zal de Amerikaanse regering geen mensen het zwijgen opleggen. Integendeel. Er is een nieuwe sheriff in Washington. Wij zullen vechten voor jullie recht om jullie mening te uiten, of we het nu met die mening eens zijn of niet.

En laten we eerlijk zijn: als je democratie kan worden vernietigd door een paar honderd euro aan Russische Facebook-advertenties, dan was je democratie sowieso niet erg sterk. Maar ik geloof dat de democratieën van Europa robuuster zijn dan dat. En ze zullen nog sterker worden als hun burgers vrijuit kunnen spreken.

Dit brengt mij terug naar München, waar de organisatoren van deze conferentie parlementsleden van zowel linkse als rechtse populistische partijen hebben uitgesloten van deelname. Als leiders moeten we in dialoog blijven met degenen die door het volk zijn gekozen, of we hun standpunten nu delen of niet.

Wat we steeds vaker zien, is dat gevestigde belangen onder het mom van ‘desinformatie’ proberen alternatieve opvattingen het zwijgen op te leggen. Maar democratie betekent dat de stem van het volk telt. Ofwel handhaaf je dit principe, ofwel niet.

De mensen van Europa hebben een stem. De leiders van Europa hebben een keuze. Mijn advies? Wees niet bang voor de toekomst. Luister naar jullie burgers, ook als hun boodschap verrassend is. Enkel zo kunnen we met vertrouwen en stabiliteit vooruit.

En met die gedachte wil ik afsluiten met de woorden van paus Johannes Paulus II:

Fine, I’ll get it off my chest. Maybe it’ll be therapeutic for me.

The International Court of “Justice” or what I like to call it The international circus of Jew haters, today issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister, Galant.

You read that right. I’ll let you read it again.

Arrest warrants. For Israel. After 10/7. For real. No, I’m not kidding.

“Oh, but they must have issued warrants for Hamas leaders too, right? Tell me they did.”

Yes! They did. For Deif. Who’s dead. That’s right. They issued an arrest warrant for a dead Hamas leader.

I’ve said this many times over the past year, but if I had walked into a movie production company with the script of what’s going on today, they’d 100% tell me to go back to the drawing board and come up with a more realistic script.

So, let me tell you what this decision means, practically speaking.

If Netanyahu or Galant travel to one of 124 countries that fall under the jurisdiction of the international court, they can legally be arrested upon landing.

It also means potential diplomatic fallout. This could strain Israel’s relationships with nations that back the ICC, potentially leading to isolation or less international support.

What are the charges against them? Sit down and take a deep breath.

The two charges against Netanyahu and Galant are:

1. War Crimes:

•Intentionally Directing Attacks Against Civilians: Deliberate targeting of civilian populations.

•Starvation as a Method of Warfare: Using deprivation of food and essential resources as a tactic.

2. Crimes Against Humanity:

•Murder: Unlawful killings of civilians.

•Persecution: Targeting individuals based on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, or gender grounds.

•Other Inhumane Acts: Actions causing significant suffering or serious injury to mental or physical health.

The entire political spectrum in Israel strongly condemned this decision.

Many congressmen also voiced their opposition to this morally bankrupt and historically disgraceful ruling.

Congressman Ritchie Torres, to name one example, tweeted “The ICC’s decision to issue arrest warrants against the leadership of Israel represents the weaponization of international law at its most egregious.

The ICC has set a precedent for criminalizing self-defense: any country daring to defend itself against an enemy that exploits civilians as human shields will face persecution posing as prosecution.

The ICC ignores the cause and context of the war. Israel did not initiate the war. The war was imposed upon Israel by the unbridged barbarism of Hamas on October 7th. Not only did Hamas wage war on Israel, causing the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, it carefully constructed a battlefield designed to maximize the loss of civilian life. None of that context seems to matter to the kangaroo court of the ICC, which cannot let facts get in the way of its ideological crusade against the Jewish State.

The ICC should be sanctioned not for enforcing the law but for distorting it beyond recognition.”

Amen!

There was, however, some who didn’t condemn this ruling, but condoned it.

Hamas, PIJ, and other Palestinian terror factions have praised the ICC’s arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. Hamas called it “An important historical precedent,” while PIJ described it as “A long-overdue step in the right direction.”

Hezbollah senior official Bassem Na’im told Reuters: “The arrest warrants issued by the International Court of Justice are an important step toward achieving justice, but they are limited if not supported by concrete actions.”

When terrorists are on your side, you know you chose the wrong side of history.

To be clear, and I am no legal expert, but besides the moral perversion associated with this warrant, there is also a legal issue here being as Israel is not part of the ICC and does not accept its rulings.

So what happens next? Well, we wait eagerly for January, that’s what.

Trump's incoming National Security Adviser, Waltz, said, "Come January, expect a strong response for both the ICC and the UN."

Waiting to hear if Biden says anything but when the Trump administration takes office, you can be sure that they will do everything in their power to force the ICC to reverse this ridiculous ruling.

By the way, rumors are that Israel will also appeal the decision, although, if you ask me, that gives it legitimacy, something we should avoid at all costs.

As I said, this court is more like a circus.

However, Holland and the UK made it clear they will abide by international law and act on this arrest warrant when applicable.

Meaning, Netanyahu should probably cancel any trips to Holland or the UK he had planned.

One thing is for sure, the ICC has brought Israeli politicians from all parties together like even the war couldn’t.

This ruling will absolutely go down in history as one of the most twisted immoral court cases in history.

What Israel does next is yet to be seen. What Biden does next is also yet to be seen. What Trump does on his first day? Well, I think we all know what he’ll do and something tells me the ICC just dug its own grave.

By the way, if still not clear how demented this ruling is, want to take a guess who the ICC did not charge with war crimes and issue arrest warrants against?

These fine gentlemen below. They’re not war criminals and Netanyahu is. What a world. The ICC has lost any and all legitimacy they might have had before. Their moral compass is broken and smashed to pieces never to be repaired again.

The silver lining? It’s nice to see so many people, in Israel, in the US, and around the world stand with Israel and rally on our behalf.

Kind of reminds of October 8th. Let’s hope this time it lasts.

To the ICC I say, you should be deeply ashamed of today’s blatantly antisemitic legal pogrom that is anything BUT just.
