اللَّهُمَّ إِنِي أَسْأَلُكَ الهُدَى، وَالتُّقَى، وَالعفَافَ، والغنَى
Oh God, I ask you for guidance, God-consciousness, self-dignity, and sel-sufficiency/richness
A prayer of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as taught to us at UmmahCon by

A tragedy in San Diego this week brought a mosque into the national spotlight.
What the world saw was an American Muslim community worth knowing.
Most masjids run on constant fundraising.
This one was quietly built to need less of it.
Two things stand out:
→ A store inside the Islamic center that was ran by one of the brothers who had passed away, serving the everyday needs of local Muslims and generating steady income for the masjid instead of relying on donation appeals.
→ A solar structure over the parking lot powering the building with clean energy, while shading the cars from the San Diego sun.
The kind of self-reliance and ingenuity that exemplifies American Muslims, and the kind of community that develops those ready to make sacrifices for their fellow brother and sister.
Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad have returned to Allah, but the work they did to build this community lives on as an example for all of us.
May Allah have mercy on the martyrs of San Diego. May He raise them to the highest ranks of Jannah. And may He preserve the community they built.
Amin Abdullah.
He stood his ground so others could make it home safely.
When gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego, Amin protected the community until his final moments. Police say his actions prevented the attack from becoming far worse.
Support Amin’s family with funeral costs, immediate household needs, education for his children, and long term financial stability.
May Allah accept him amongst the martyrs and grant patience to his loved ones. 🤲

For educators, workplace managers, & anyone wanting to better understand how Islamophobia poisons our societies and can lead to deadly violence like what tragically unfolded in #SanDiego, this Canadian government resource provides universal insights:

Earlier this month, a Black Muslim man was almost beaten to death in Alberta.
The same province where a student group received Islamophobic death threats just weeks before.
This past Ramadan, a Toronto family was harassed, and a child assaulted. Their mosque also a target of death threats.
A Muslim woman was harassed and physically assaulted on a bus in Scarborough.
An Islamophobic sign was recently posted at a store in Vancouver.
A mosque in Quebec was targeted with death threats, also in the past few weeks.
As we join those who are mourning the deadly killings in San Diego, and praying for the victims and their families, we must also call on each other to stand united against the hate, dehumanization and Islamophobia that continue to threaten our safety and well-being in the U.S., here in Canada, and around the world.

Remember this? Terrorists represent a tiny fraction of 1% of global Muslims yet Muslims are forever being asked to condemn it. So 19 yr old @caveheraa compiled a 700+ page Google doc of Muslim orgs & people condemning terror attacks.

Islamophobia has no place in Canada.
9 years ago today, the lives of 6 Canadian Muslims were horrifically taken in an Islamophobic act of terror in Québec City that left 19 more people injured. As we remember them, we remain committed to building a country where Canadians of all faiths can live openly, freely, and safely.
This January 29th, the ninth anniversary of the Quebec City mosque shooting that shook this country, ask your local city officials and businesses if they are taking steps to tackle Islamophobia across Canada.
Join our #GreenSquareCampaign and ask our leaders about what they’re doing to stop the recent spike in anti-Muslim hatred.
What are they doing to make sure that we end Islamophobia in Canada?
Monuments across the country, including the J. Allyn Taylor Building, will be lit green on this National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia
The recent surge in hateful comments and threats toward Amira Elghawaby, the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, are disgraceful and entirely unacceptable. Disagreement is legitimate, harmful or abusive conduct, including disinformation, is not.
I am calling on the Minister to summon the Israeli Ambassador and demand a formal written explanation. Anything less risks normalizing the mistreatment of Canadian parliamentarians and citizens abroad.
Today a private delegation of Canadians—which included Members of Parliament—was denied entry to the West Bank at an Israeli border crossing. Global Affairs is in contact with the delegation and we have expressed Canada’s objections regarding the mistreatment of these Canadians while attempting to cross.
The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), the Council of Imams NSW and the Australian Muslim community unequivocally condemn the horrific shootings in Bondi.
We are horrified by the shooting today at Bondi Beach, taking the lives of 11 innocent souls.
To the Canadian Jewish community, know that like the Muslim grocer in Australia who reportedly intervened to take down the gunman in this horrifying terrorist attack, we stand with you against hate, anti-Semitism, and in mourning.
Yesterday, CSIS Director Dan Rogers met with the NCCM CEO Stephen Brown to discuss, among other things, the omission of the need to address violent Islamophobia in Canada, as a part of the Director's annual remarks this year.
This was a concern to many given the 2017 Quebec Mosque shooting, the 2021 London Terror Attack, and numerous waves of escalating anti-Muslim street attacks, mosque invasions, and other incidents that have affected the Muslim community.
Yesterday's meeting included a discussion around the importance of challenging the rise of violence on our streets, growing white nationalist violence, and public safety.
A letter of apology has also been written in relation to the initial omission.
We will work to ensure that we make a better Canada - together.
