How a 25-day-repair delay cost a life: The death of a 59-year-old woman in Anna Nagar wasn’t an accident or an act of god but was sheer negligence of two state agencies @chennaicorp and @TANGEDCO_Offcl who were aware of the hazards and yet they did not act on it for 25 days.

According to communications, Tangedco Anna Nagar North AE on July 31 in a letter flagged that the storm water drain work had damaged high tension and low tension lines in 11 locations in the stretch, including the accident spot at Anna Nagar metro. The official in the letter to @chennaicorp said the wires were partially damaged in four locations, fully damaged in four locations and punctured in three locations. The AE sought immediate repair from @chennaicorp as it was causing long outages and disrepute to the TNPDCL.

The GCC ward 103 AE only forwarded this letter to the contractor, executing the storm after drain project, on Aug 17, after a delay of 17 days.

The contractor procured the LT & HT lines by Aug 22.

There were two full days for the Tangedco to fix it and they didn’t. The 59-year-old woman died on 24th night.
