Maungdaw Daily News reported that on the night of 17 May, starting at 9:00pm, Rohingyas in Buthidaung town were driven away by the Arakan Army (AA), and their homes were set on fire.

Rohingya residents of Buthidaung, along with those from neighbouring villages who had sought refugee in the town, fled from their homes and shelters in the early morning of 18 May.

It was also reported that AA forces had blocked the road, trapping a large crowd of people trying to flee towards Maungdaw in front of Buthidaung prison.

Myanmar Witness was able to geolocate the position of these people near Buthidaung prison using Google Earth.
