Johannesburg is draped in purple. The jacarandas are in full bloom now, transforming the city into a breathtaking sea of lilac. I’m strolling beneath the jacaranda trees and it is magic! 😍💜🌸📸

@jolyonbarker@Fortune@Deloitte “Achieving profitable growth with fewer resources against market & industry headwinds”-A CEO respondent when asked about the biggest challenge they face as CEO today.I would (humbly) suggest: “..sustainable..” is a necessary addition: “Achieving profitable, sustainable growth…”
Please, anyone out there, if you know where this young lady is, or know anything whatsoever as to her whereabouts, please let everyone know, especially this coach at Porter Ridge who is her father.
Please make sure you keep her and this family in your prayers for a safe return.
Phil Knight, the charismatic founder and former CEO of @Nike, keynoted a conference where he demonstrated an important skill all leaders must radiate...the ability to connect the soul of the organization to the soul of the customer.
What you stand for...
Why you exist...
Why you started...
Why, us...
Knight didn't say what makes Nike better than competitors. He didn't talk about materials or design. He didn't sell on price.
Looking across the audience, Knight asked those who run to stand up. A lot of people stood up.
Then he asked those who run three or more times a week to keep standing. As you can imagine, a good chunk of people sat down.
Looking out at the people left standing, Knight emphasized the 'why' Nike exists, "we are for you."
He continued, "When you get up at 5 o'clock in the morning to go for a run, even if it's cold and wet out, you go. And when you get to mile 4, we're the one standing under the lamp post, out there in the cold and wet with you, cheering you on."
Boom 💥
He connected to that drive that each of us have in some way, "We're the inner athlete. We're the inner champion."
"Just Do It" is more than a tag line. It's a purpose. It's the means for doing. It's a partnership.
Saturday’s Story:
I had just spent an hour in the bank with my father, as he had to transfer some money. I couldn't resist asking:
"Dad, why don't we activate your internet banking?"
"Why would I do that?" he replied.
"Because then you wont have to spend an hour here for things like that transfer.
You can even do your shopping online. Everything will be so easy!"
I was so excited about introducing him to the exciting world of online banking.
He thought for a minute, then answered "If I do that, I wont have to step out of the house?"
"Yes, yes" I said. I told him how even grocery can be delivered to your front door now, and how Amazon delivers everything!
His answer left me speechless.
He replied "Since I entered this bank today, I have met four of my friends. And I have chatted for a while with the staff who know me very well by now.
You know that I am alone. This is the company that I need. I like to get ready and come to the bank. I have more than enough time, it is the physical touch that I crave.
Two years ago I got sick, The shop owner, where I buy my fruit, came to see me and sat by my bedside and cried.
When your mum fell down few days ago during her morning walk, our local grocer saw her and immediately brought his car to rush her home, as he knows where I live.
Would I have that 'human' touch if everything became online?
Why would I want everything delivered to me, forcing me to only interact with my computer?
I like to know the person I'm dealing with and not just the 'seller'. It creates bonds and relationships.
Does Amazon deliver all this as well?"
Technology isn't life. Spend time with people. Not with devices.
