@WorldOfBeck@AcademicChatter@PhD_Guru The best advice that I got during my PhD: "Write like an idiot. Edit like a genius." Or another version from Hemingway: "Write drunk. Edit sober."
@WorldOfBeck@AcademicChatter@PhD_Guru I found it helpful to first do a braindump of thoughts - stream of consciousness style - just write 1-2 pages. Then edit it.
People can come across rude and passive aggressive, when in fact they are poor communicators, and struggle to express themselves in better ways. If you know better, than reframe it, and replay, so everyone moves forward.
I bullet journal all my meetings and activities at the end of each workday in a spreadsheet. Day by day it builds up and presents a clean scroll of how I'm basically spending the days of my life. Where my mind is at. Where the stress is at. What matters (or not). #wheredidtimego
Tempted to keep working at night, but it zaps energy away the next day. Need to switch off. The machinery of the mind might keep whirring even after switching off, but at least it has a chance to slow down, cool off, and re-centre on what it means to be alive. #mindfulness
"We faculty do the research, write the papers, referee papers by other researchers, serve on editorial boards, all of it for free โฆ and then we buy back the results of our labour at outrageous prices." @RobertDarnton former director of Harvard Library https://t.co/hAtDosDmYo
That feeling after submitting my PhD thesis was surreal. Something I had worked at nonstop all day and night (yes, even when we're not writing, it grips the thoughts) - the atmosphere vaporised. The chains fell off. It felt like freedom. #PhDlife#PhDchat
Is it weird that I have 3 Twitter accounts? I just want to keep each channel distinct and focused. @SociologieSense for research tips, @ShopkeeperStory for business tips, and @NazzyZazzy for... life in all its tipsiness =)
I've started experimenting with jumping between meetings to feel energised and active. Jumping side to side, back and forth, hopping and skipping. Cardio that isn't boring; just part of the day! One of the benefits of #WFH.
For many months, I woke up at 5.00am and cracked open my laptop in the darkness to get my thoughts flowing before the day could numb my access to this stream of consciousness. I hated waking up so damn early, but the writing... wrote itself at this hour. #PhDchat#PhDlife
Recalling how I spent the last few days (and nights) of my PhD bingeing on @Pixar movies while eating nothing but ice-cream to numb the experience of writing out the entire bibliography in the last mile to my submission. #PhDlife#PhDchat@ASAnews โค๏ธ
