NDC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL (PCC) READY SOON

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to inform its teeming members, supporters, and the general public that the party is in active consultation with all relevant stakeholders to develop and inaugurate a robust Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

In this regard, our Presidential Candidate and his Vice-Presidential Candidate have held several productive meetings with the National Leader and the leadership of the party.

To ensure inclusiveness, cohesion, and victory, the party at the national level has agreed as follows:

1. That our Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso shall nominate the Director-General of the Campaign, Deputy Director-General (North), the Spokesman of the Campaign, Deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, the Finance Director, Deputy Finance Director and several others in consultation with the party. The party leadership has given a free hand to the presidential candidate and his running mate to make nominations.

That the Finance Director and his Deputy, in collaboration with the National Treasurer of the party, shall manage all campaign funds in the spirit of transparency and accountability, as the party is saddled with the responsibility of rendering accounts to INEC in line with the Electoral Act.

That a full organogram of the campaign structure has been developed since August and made available to both Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Kwankwaso for their input, while we also got nominations from other stakeholders across the country.

The party wishes to assure the public that as soon as we receive the inputs of our Presidential Candidate and his Vice, the NDC shall proceed to announce and inaugurate the same. We have also proposed a campaign timetable since August, and we are waiting to conclude arrangements for the funding and fundraising for the campaign, to be spearheaded by the candidates. The money raised shall be paid into the presidential campaign account to be managed by officers nominated by the presidential candidate and his running mate, as well as the party national treasurer.

The inauguration of the PCC was earlier scheduled for the first week of September but had to be put off due to the travel schedule of the presidential candidate.

We also appeal to all our candidates at all levels to restrain their supporters and support groups to focus on the need to win elections. There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC. We are committed as a party. The party has done its own and is ready to do more. The candidates and their supporters are encouraged to do the same.

Our candidates should keep their eyes on the ball and focus on winning.

The NDC wants all our candidates at all levels to win resoundingly, especially as they are not running as independent candidates.

Fellow Party Members and Nigerians,

Today, the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, has set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lokoja, delivered by Justice Isah Dashen a few months ago, which purported to order the deregistration of our party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a judgment delivered by the presiding Justice, Justice Mohammed Danjuma and read by Justice Hassan, the Court ruled in favour of allowing our appeal, which challenged the faulty ruling of the Federal High Court, Lokoja, and accordingly, set aside Justice Dashen’s judgment.

We want to use this opportunity once again to commend the Nigerian judiciary, and in particular, Hon. Justice Danjuma and Hon. Justice Hassan, for upholding the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary and, by their decisions, expanding the sphere of multiparty democratic participation in Nigeria.

We have said repeatedly that the NDC was set up to expand the frontier of multiparty democracy in Nigeria. Justice Dashen’s judgment a few months ago was an unexpected assault on our constitutional right to participate and an attempt to narrow the democratic space.

Happily, today, by the decision of the Court of Appeal, the Nigerian democratic space has been protected, and the NDC’s right to participate in all political activities as a registered political party has been upheld.

I congratulate all members and candidates of our great party, the NDC, and thank Nigerians for their prayers and support.

When the unexpected judgment of the Lokoja Federal High Court was delivered, we were bombarded with several calls for sympathy, support and prayers. Today, our collective prayers have been answered.

The NDC continues to exist. Our registration remains valid and subsisting, and we and all our candidates will participate in all elections in 2027 and beyond, by the grace of God.

Everyone should now focus on the campaigns, prepare for the elections, and focus on the task ahead to face the APC and defeat them at the polls.

A resort to arm-twisting, inducing or intimidating the judiciary will not work. We remain confident in the strength of our message, the commitment of our members, the viability of our candidates, and the support of Nigerians. With this conviction, we look forward to the forthcoming elections and are confident that the NDC will emerge victorious at the polls, by the grace of God.

The fight for Nigeria's multiparty democracy continues and by the grace of God we will emerge victorious.
