In a new video released today, Issa Tchiroma Bakary hailed the success of the first day of the three-day “ville morte” (ghost town) protest, calling it a defining moment in Cameroon’s struggle for justice and renewal.

Tchiroma described the nationwide shutdown as “a testament to the people’s courage and unity”, adding that he is “proud to be the people’s president.” He urged citizens to remain steadfast, reminding them that “nothing can be achieved without the spirit of sacrifice.”

Across the country, streets were largely deserted as Cameroonians heeded the call to demonstrate peacefully against decades of political stagnation and unfulfilled promises.
