@JasonVegas22 That was the week after Taysom Hill went down, right? And BYU was starting a new QB (who turned out to be pretty good, but that was a rough place for a first start)? If so, I was at that game. :(
BYU has nothing to do with any of this. They played hard, made mistakes (2 TOs and the failed fake punt which might as well have been a 3rd TO), didn’t have the Big XII Off POY and was starting a true freshman at right guard, and still won the game. BYU didn’t do anything wrong. You can blame the officials all you want, but that doesn’t take away what BYU did on the field. Notre Dame had every chance to make the last play not matter. You can’t get three gifts in BYU’s side of the field, come away with only 6 points, and then cry foul.
@nd_winencheese Also, remember that BYU outrushed you with their 3rd and 4th string RBs. We also were starting a true freshman at Right Guard. It's not like our best beat you, either.
If you didn't play your best, maybe it's because BYU executed a really good game plan.
@JasonVegas22 Don't worry. If BYU is winning close to the end, Kalani will take his foot off the gas. Y'all are our conference brothers. Don't want to embarrass you. But this game is no gimme.
@CFBGuy999 Yes. This is where Notre Dame lost. If BYU doesn't run the punt fake, this game could've been out of reach in the 4th. If Notre Dame scores a TD off any of those, BYU is likely done.
@ArticleFiveNow@iiTzz_Tyrell Interesting. Then this, too, is a culture thing that must be dictated by temple presidents. I was talking to someone who had asked about being a temple worker and they were told that they would have to shave their beard. Which they went ahead and did.
@CFBGuy999 Honestly, if you believe that BYU is really no. 3, and Notre Dame was within a hair of winning that game even with the mistakes, you should still be top 5. Give yourself some credit.
This is not trash talk. This is a legit question. How much of ND's perceived poor performance is attributed to BYU's good performance? Was BYU the most physical defense you've played? Was it the most physical offense that you've played? How much of that affected ND's execution?
BYU had played Arizona, who has a fantastic offense and a pretty good defense. BYU had played on the road against TCU, who has a putrid offense, but at the time had a top 15 defense. BYU had already faced adversity a few times.
So, did ND just "not show up"? Or did the opponent's preparation just make it harder for ND to execute what they wanted to do?
@ArticleFiveNow@iiTzz_Tyrell OK, yes, and I should say that they actually directed all those in attendance to be clean shaven. It wasn't worded like a question.
Now, did they shave? Some did. Some didn't.
I’ve said this in a few other threads, so I’ll say it here. A huge “Thank you” to Notre Dame for scheduling us and coming out to Provo to play. I can’t think of any other non Big XII P4 schools, and certainly none with the history, prestige, and pedigree of Notre Dame, who will come play us in Provo. Y’all took a chance to come play a really good team in a tough environment. I wish that the game had ended without controversy, either way.
In any case, I’ll be rooting for Notre Dame the rest of the way. Sure, it helps BYU look good, but Marcus Freeman is class, your team is talented, and maybe we’ll see each other in the playoffs.
