RETIRED POLICE OFFICER MISSING AFTER MEETING CATTLE BUSINESS ASSOCIATE…Wife, family cry out to IGP as two suspects are arrested, freed
For the family of retired Superintendent of Police, SP Shehu Ahmed Emmanuel, the past several weeks have been filled with anguish, sleepless nights and unanswered questions after the former police officer disappeared without a trace following a meeting with a cattle business associate.
Emmanuel, who resides in the Kuto area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, reportedly left home on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after receiving a call from a Fulani cattle businessman with whom he had been doing business.
Since that day, his wife and other members of the family have lived through an agonising wait, desperately hoping that every ringing telephone might bring news of his whereabouts.
But there has been no word.
According to information provided by the family, Emmanuel had been rearing two cows in partnership with the Fulani businessman. The family said the businessman had earlier advised the retired officer not to sell the cattle during the Eid-el-Kabir period.
However, on July 23, the same businessman reportedly contacted Emmanuel and asked him to meet him around Rounder, along Igbora Road, Abeokuta.
Trusting the business relationship, Emmanuel reportedly left home to honour the invitation.
At about 3 p.m. that day, he was said to have contacted his family. That would be the last known communication they had with him.
Subsequent calls to his telephone reportedly went unanswered.
As concern turned into fear and fear into panic, his wife rushed to report his disappearance at the Sabo Police Division, Ilupeju.
The family said the Divisional Police Officer responded promptly, mobilising police personnel and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to begin efforts to locate the retired officer and unravel what had happened to him.
The investigation reportedly led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the case.
But despite the arrests and the efforts so far, Emmanuel has not been found.
More troubling, according to the family, is that the Fulani businessman who allegedly invited the retired officer to the meeting has also reportedly disappeared and is no longer reachable.
The case has since been transferred to the Ogun State Police Command for further investigation.
For Emmanuel’s wife, however, the investigation is not merely a police case. It is a desperate search for the man she loves and wants to see return home alive.
Each passing day, the uncertainty has deepened the family’s anguish.
They now fear that the retired officer, who served the Nigeria Police Force before his retirement, may have come to harm after leaving home for what appeared to be an ordinary business meeting.
The family is therefore making an emotional appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, to personally intervene and ensure that every available resource is deployed to trace Emmanuel and determine exactly what happened to him after he left for the meeting.
They are also appealing to the Ogun State Police Command and other security agencies to intensify the search, thoroughly investigate all persons connected to the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and ensure that no possible lead is ignored.
“We just want him back,” the family is appealing in their desperate search for answers.
They also called on anyone who may have seen Emmanuel or have information about his whereabouts since July 23 to immediately contact the nearest police station or members of his family.
As the investigation continues, the family remains hopeful that their father, husband and loved one will be found alive and safely reunited with them.
For now, however, one painful question continues to haunt them: What happened to SP Shehu Ahmed Emmanuel after he left home that Thursday afternoon?
His family is waiting for an answer.
