The Conservative’s election gambit on compulsory national service is an undeliverable plan and a distraction from their failures in defence.
Even their own Defence Minister dismissed the idea saying it ‘could damage morale, recruitment and retention’. 1/2

I'm thrilled to be Labour's parliamentary candidate for Somerton & Frome.
Thanks to those who've offered support. It's been brilliant to hear from you. I'm looking forward to the hard work ahead & opportunity to make Labour's case with voters in a community that matters to me
Very proud of my wife, Anne, today speaking at the TUC rally in Taunton on why teachers are choosing to strike today. Yes, it's obviously about pay, but it's also about the quality of education for our children, & about keeping teachers in the profession.
Fantastic to hear from one of our leading workplace reps, Anne Guild!
"We are having to pick up where the support services have been cut to the bone. When I came into teaching everything was on the up... we need more funding to keep our teachers in the profession"
We are now hearing from @NeilGuild from @UNISONSW
"We are hearing from our members from every sector we represent that they are facing a squeeze from low pay and the rising cost of living crisis"

@KateEwert Really sorry to hear this news Kate. Disappointing that you haven't been longlisted on this occasion as you'd have been brilliant as our candidate in C&R, but I'm sure there will be other opportunities for you. Anything I can do in the future, let me know.
Suella Braverman did not mistakenly leak a meaningless document. She endlessly consulted a maverick. She deliberately emailed a policy doc not yet agreed to her pvt email. Then she sent it to John Hayes and someone she thought was his wife. Then lied to PM about when it was sent
At noon Rishi Sunak promised “integrity, professionalism & accountability”
At 5pm he made Suella Braverman Home Secretary, 1wk after she resigned for Ministerial Code breach/security lapse
He put party before country. Security is too important for this irresponsible Tory chaos
After 12 years of Tory failure, the British people deserve so much better than this revolving door of chaos.
We need a general election, now.
My full statement:
We cannot afford the Conservatives' chaos any longer.
Britain deserves better than this.
It's time for a Labour government that will put this country first.
