Some of the most meaningful calls end not with an arrest, but with a safe trip home.

While on patrol, officers with the California Highway Patrol encountered a man walking along the shoulder of US-101 who appeared disoriented and was showing signs consistent with dementia.

Unable to remember where he lived, the man was able to provide his brother's phone number. The officers contacted his family, arranged a safe reunion, and before taking him home, Officer Skaufel purchased him a meal after learning he hadn't eaten all day.

The officers then safely transported him home, where he was reunited with his brother and able to enjoy a late-night meal.

Calls like these are a reminder that law enforcement is about more than traffic enforcement. Sometimes, the greatest impact an officer can make is helping someone safely find their way home.
