FAO energy geographers and fuel poverty researchers - @RachelMcArdle19 and I are hosting a session on #energypoverty at next year's International Geographical Congress in Dublin. Would be great to see some of you there.
Abstract submission now open: https://t.co/yxX8ieoVV8
Periodic reminder that those who periodically share this graph are pretty mum on how the values on both axes are log-transformed and what that implies.
This is absolute madness. Carbon capture and storage has failed time and again. Labour has slashed reliable green programmes, to pour vast sums of our money into a complete crock. The only possible explanation is lobbying by fossil fuel companies.🧵 https://t.co/GCyad2C3N4
Are you a postdoc looking to increase the impact of your research by informing policymakers? We have four open 6-month postdoctoral opportunities on different topics: just transition, horticulture, diet and electricity markets. https://t.co/1BXJGSkWlY

NEW: England's quarterly homelessness stats are out - more bleak reading.
There are 145,800 homeless children living in temporary accommodation - the highest ever recorded and up 15% on last year
There are 112,660 homeless households - up 12% in a year and the highest on record
Across England we're handing £9bn a year in housing benefit to private landlords.
In some areas, including some seaside and post-industrial cities and towns, but also Enfield and Brent, over £1 in every £3 of rent paid is paid through HB.
So what's going on??
Joining us this week are the @FuelPovertyRN - we discuss the issue of fuel poverty and the work being done to tackle this. With @LucieMiddlemiss @NicolaWilland & @NeilNds and hosted by @hannon_matthew @fraserjfstewart@RFordUK - ALSO WE ARE NOW ON LINKEDIN - SEARCH 'LOCAL ZERO'
My first post-PhD paper is out! I hopefully explained the concept of 'low-carbon gentrification' a bit further, identifying three avenues through which heating transitions can reshape inner-city neighbourhoods:

Scrapping this commitment would be hugely damaging - not just for people in fuel poverty, but for housing providers and industry crying out for government leadership and some semblance of certainty on energy efficiency policy. https://t.co/5A1tmpmgLk
✨Robinson and Williams introduce the concept of ambient vulnerability and they illustrate how this concept is integral to our understanding of social and #ecological vulnerability.

1 in every 43 homes in Liverpool are long-term vacant
Meanwhile 14,000 people are on the housing waiting list & temporary accommodation costs for councils are soaring
📢 Job alert/Phd opportunities in energy retrofit and decarbonisation @GeographyUOM@UoMUrban @mcr_energy. Pls spread the word:
a) 3 year post-doc in place-based retrofit & regeneration (focusing on #energyadvice) as part of place theme @EDRC_UK (https://t.co/1qd0Dc9zlF).
b) 3.5 year PhD on energy intermediaries & low carbon development, co-supervised w @paultobin & Faye Wade @geosciencesed (https://t.co/7O4n0oZRRU).
c) 4 year PhD on the decarbonisation divide w @GSA_UniMelb (https://t.co/kybGTXPOx0).
This is a critical point, well made, in latest @natfednews advocacy. How do we pay for everything we know we need when fiscal rules reign supreme?
And it's true not just for social housing, but public infrastructure everywhere. Not least in energy and climate resilience too...
To what extent can energy advice reduce #energypoverty? Together with @NeilNds we recently published a paper on the topic in @criticalsocpol, based on the long-standing Manchester Energy Advice Lab (in operation since 2019). My work on the paper was part-supported by @EDRC_UK. Open access at: https://t.co/2vnk3EimdO
