Dr. Doyle, the only thing equally shocking is the fact that so little is done about abuse and neglect, even after all these years. I think it's flawed thinking that concludes often that putting a child back into a home, after having been removed, is best. So many of the tragic cases we read about have such a terrible history running in the background. When I've read accounts I think, I'll bet there's a history, and sadly there always is.
That is so funny. My cat knows I love to touch him and kiss him, but soon enough is enough...he's a cat! But when I make salmon, which he loves, he will let me show him affection for as long as I want, because he believes that increases his chance of having salmon (all true). Then when the salmon is gone...poof-just like that, it's back to business as usual.
51 Mile ride today in Reno. Very hot. My Garmin reflects the actual temp plus the heat coming off the road. At a red light you also get the car heat, the worse kind!
@sfowler Always. Kids are smarter than most probably realize. They're very aware, genuine, and pure. I feel so lucky to have had a career that allowed me to become a link in their chain of growth and development. Have a great weekend, Seth.
@sfowler Great question, Seth. I think of teachers who taught me. They weren't really known outside of the school environment, and then after retirement went into obscurity. I wish Mrs. Fox could know how she changed my life. She was not just super appreciated, she became my salvation.
@brulesteve117@pensandpoison@exlarson I think it's a standalone, as there are enough references from Pillars to give context. It's an amazing novel...@KMFollett must be so incredibly brilliant to write such a novel.
@HSRdirector@IvanaDGreco After protection, safety, and love, I always viewed my role in the raising of my two sons as doing everything I could for them to become loving, good, honest, and decent human beings.
My current book is World Without End. A massive book about 1200 pages!...half way through.
I'm enjoying it immensely, but because there is so much content, you must stick with it...no breaks to read something else! I hope you enjoy Devil as much as I did. @exlarson is such an excellent writer...I learned so much from that story.
I have recommended it to everyone who will listen to me!
@LesChouans1793 Thank you for the reference and taking the time to comment. What a gift Larry McMurtry had to create a story of such profound excellence. Have a great day. Neil
@chriz31_07 Was there for an 8 day bicycle tour. I loved NC; the people were so great to us. And the Outer Banks was incredibly beautiful! Have a great day, Chriz
