Apparently between Gilley's bail proceeding and his flight to Italy, Texas voters approved a ballot initiative to make it easier to deny bail. Terribly unfortunate timing

A Texas man accused of killing his pregnant wife cut off his ankle monitor, hopped on a bicycle, and boarded a private jet to Italy before his murder trial — and now the Italian government is dictating the terms of his return.

Italy granted Lee Gilley's extradition only after U.S. prosecutors agreed to drop the capital murder charge tied to the death of his unborn child. No death penalty. No life without parole. The reduced first-degree murder charge carries 5 to 99 years if convicted.

Gilley's defense attorney says an appeal is likely, meaning the man accused of murdering Christa Bauer Gilley could remain overseas even longer. Authorities believe he had help fleeing the country.

@Travelsofofs Apparently the judge's hands were tied in that the previous guidelines required the prosecution to meet a fairly high evidentiary bar in order to even have the option of pretrial detention. The prosecution asked for $3M and the judge granted just $1M, so there's that

When most of us buy driver-assist tech I think we're mostly hoping to avoid *causing* accidents

But this is probably more important, actually. Getting rear-ended can give you a brain or spinal injury. Getting T-boned can kill you. The car moves a few feet and you walk away

I was in an accident.. got rear ended buy a large truck while I was sitting at a light in my Model Y. He was going 50mph. My car tried to get out of the way on its own…. it drove forward and turned to avoid.. he was just going too fast. My Y saved my ass buy avoiding the car in front so we didnt have a double impact and reduced the impact by moving forwa. I hade zero injuries and walked away. I will be replacing the car with another Tesla. The car actively tried to save me and reduced the impact to my body. Just awesome…

@KelseyTuoc Everything about this makes sense to me, you can only imagine the images in his head with four little kids hit at short range with a shotgun. Maybe he had an opportunity to take a shot earlier, who knows, but who would shoot a teen before he was 100% certain the kid was serious?
