Snowflake is up to 9k employees in 2026 vs 5.8k in 2023. They recently let go of 70 people in technical writing and documentation. 😆
Their new revenue stream is Cortex Code tokens charging a premium on top of the underlying Claude tokens. 1 person just saying "hello" to Cortex Code cost them 25,000 tokens because of the injection wrappers.
New (reshaped) jobs will be engineers that can use the snowflake Cortex agents efficiently.
@washghost1 Not fully loaded? Missing the factory Symphony Sound auto-reverse deck. Also, the Eldorado of that year 84/85 was the very first car I saw with a digital speedometer. I was very wowed as a 14 year old.
@ClarksonsFarm1 They should just eat the bugs, because they never account for their deaths. If it's not furry and cute, it's likely not an animal to them.
This isn't new. Computing has repeatedly gone through cycles of centralized expensive resources → metering → optimization wars → eventual commoditization. Time-sharing on mainframes was a direct precursor to cloud computing economics, and AI token budgets are the just the latest chapter.
@JaynitMakwana The truest fact out of this discussion: "I don't know the answer, nobody does." The builders have to settle on abundant wealth to keep the capital spend hope faucet on. @DaveShapi has deep dives into the post labor economy.
@Rainmaker1973 Seaman Jones: "Sir, remember the dispatch we got about Russian sub skippers running the Reykjanes Ridge at high speeds because they had hyper-accurate surveys of the underwater canyons? The front door to those canyons was a formation called Thor's Twins..."
@Mericamemed Very nostalgic, even if it wasn't the original cassette. Pretty sure the kids in the CyberTruck these days could just say "Hey Grok, play Nutshell, and drive me to the back 40 nice and slow" and get most of the way there.
@EdgarONealWX@WxFront That many chasers and only a couple were in position for the Tornado Emergency near Pawnee City. At some point an entire line of backed up traffic is going to get swept away in a big one.
@Rainmaker1973 I'm a solution architect, I solve technical problems, but if I had 50% more of the empathic people skills my wife has, I'd be unstoppable.
@IowaChill Waukee’s is at max capacity!
Meanwhile Grimes is over there flexing:
+15.7% population (15,392 → 17,809)
AND
+32.7% more housing units (5,708 → 7,578)
They built so much extra housing they’ve got room for everyone fleeing Waukee.
@MaxVelocityWX I saw 156 chasers nearby on another stream, that's crazy. They were all chasing each other rather than splitting up on the storm line. When the tornado emergency hit near Pawnee, only 1 managed to get a shot of it as the rest chased the bowl that wouldn't drop.
