What if NTV Kenya introduced a one-hour Luganda news bulletin specifically for viewers in Uganda while NTV Uganda remains off air? Given NTV Uganda's strong following, this could help Nation Media Group continue serving its Ugandan audience with reliable news.
Why I Write for Children, you ask?
I knew what I wanted to do with my life as young as age 12.
When I was in Primary Three, about eight years old, I loved playing a game called Start and Stop. The game challenged us to think of a country, food, animal, or other category in alphabetical order within thirty seconds.
I hated losing. To improve my chances, I began reading atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and anything I could get my hands on. Without realising it, I was becoming a passionate reader.
A few years later, I joined a boarding school and discovered something exciting: the school had a library. At the time, having a library was a rare privilege, and I could hardly wait to step inside. I imagined shelves full of stories, adventures, and worlds waiting to be explored.
But there was one problem. The library was out of bounds!
It existed as a place to show off to parents and visitors rather than for children to enjoy. We were told we might tear or dirty the books, so the doors remained closed to us. I tried several times to gain entry, but I was repeatedly turned away.
Then, after nearly two years, the librarian finally allowed me in.
I still remember that moment. I stood in awe as rows upon rows of books stretched from one end of the room to the other. The scent of new books filled the air. I had never seen so many books in one place.
There were stories from every corner of the world—Hansel and Gretel, Pocahontas, Arabian Nights, and folktales from distant lands. As I wandered through the shelves, I felt wonder and absolute excitement!
But I also noticed something missing.
There were no African folktales!
Why were our stories not written and illustrated with the same beauty, care, and excitement as the stories from other parts of the world?
At twelve years old, standing among those shelves, I made a decision.
I was going to write beautifully illustrated African stories for children.
Today, that dream lives on through Tamu Toto, https://t.co/8yZS3zX95c.
My goal is for every child in Africa to get their hands on a Tamu Toto book and see themselves, their stories, and their culture reflected in the pages they read.

PARENTING
MEN LISTEN
For the boy child, you don’t say I want you to go running, you say let’s go run.
You don’t say, I want you to cook, you say let’s cook.
You don’t say I want you to clean, you say let’s clean.
You don’t say wake up early, you say we shall wake up so early tomorrow.
It helps them appreciate that men or boys too can cook, can clean, can exercise, can lay beds, clean their toilets.

It’s generally hard to convince @bazanye to anything but he has agreed to come to the book club this Saturday. If you carry your copy of the book, he will sign it - plus, we may get him to say a thing or two about the book 😊😊😊

AAIU is inviting Expressions of Interest from organizations to join its Country Strategy Paper VI (2025–2029) partnership pool. The call is open to CSOs, refugee-led groups, research institutions, and private sector actors working in climate justice, governance, women and youth empowerment, humanitarian response, and research/innovation.
The aim is to build a strong, values-driven network for collaboration in programme design, implementation, advocacy, evidence generation, and resource mobilization.
Partners should demonstrate strong governance, accountability, safeguarding standards, and a commitment to rights-based, inclusive, and locally led approaches.
If your work aligns with these areas, this is an opportunity to engage in shaping impactful programming over the next strategic period.
