@milos_gis@TheDataDecoded I guess you could then at least say that it's the most mountainous in the EU. I think Greece is also very high in this stat...
@StefanFSchubert@BirthGauge Slovenia was communist and has higher life expectancy than Austria, Germany, Denmark and Netherlands. Those few km of Mediterranean coast and high living standard really are doing wonders.
In a dinner conversation w/ a friend, we said, let see in a simplest possible way which countries did well in the transition from socialism to capitalism. I then made this simple calculation: find out the average growth rate of real GDP per capita between 1985 (a "normal" socialist year) and 2024 (the latest available year for all). Here is the graph, with countries ranked in increasing order.
@eimaikifas @realjohnofgaunt@VikkyMania_c@MikeDiplockre Serbs tell me they understand Bulgarian a lot more than Slovenian.
It's true though that Bulgarian (and Macedonian) grammar is very different.
2024 Average Annual Wages of OECD countries in USD (ppp adjusted) vs. Wages Growth from 1994 to 2024:
Spain, Italy and Japan: Virtually no increase in real wages in 30 years (!), and below OECD average wage.
Portugal and Greece: Low wages but growing close to the OECD average.
Mexico: Disaster, catastrophe.
