I agree there are many charity scams while those doing good work in a coordinated, efficient manner with proven results saving lives and returning them back into the workforce - are starved. All while I am sure many good and high performing ethical home healthcare companies serving those in need were forced to compete for precious few resources with the fraudulent ones...conducting regular required financial and in person audits by government agencies could have prevented this.

I agree with @SecKennedy and @SecretaryTurner ...metrics on non profit homeless and addiction programs DO matter and it is way overdue to make sure that corruption must be rooted out and programs that are not focused on outcomes must be cut. Everyone should agree: fraud, waste & abuse must be rooted out. But let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Let’s eliminate the bad actors while recruiting 'proven' experts and doubling down on the organizations that are compassionate, accountable & actually healing the root causes of homelessness.

Everyone is so busy these days and sadly we are all inundated by so much negative news to worry about. That's why for me, Sundays, when I can, are a time to reset, reconnect with nature, and reflect.

I agree. I was instrumental in opening and running the first electronic monitoring program in cook county at our transitional housing program. It was very successful in helping people with no place to stay. Our criteria included only accepting non violent offenders nor sex offenders.

@joeorganhq and @elon I hear you talk a lot about the “homeless industrial complex” and how dark and corrupt parts of it can be.

As someone who has spent nearly 30 years on the front lines, I agree. Corruption should be exposed, and organizations that exploit vulnerable people or taxpayer dollars should be held accountable.

But here’s my question: What if you knew about a program doing exactly what you say you want to see?

Would you put a spotlight on that, too?

This is a video of the program I founded 30 years ago built around helping people move from homelessness and addiction toward stability, independence, and a productive life.
And many prominent members of Congressman from Washington, DC, actually stepped out of thier ivory tower and came to see it for themselves. Here is a video of one name you may know that came to see us a few times during his tenure.

@SecretaryTurner While some people may not be able to achieve that ultimate goal such as seniors or legitimately disabled on the spectrum of what defines the best level of success that is 100% correct.

If this is true and can get passed the political partisanship, it is horrible! It impacts so many charities doing good as they missed out on precious few funds earmarked for helping and saving lives in need that truly depend on these resources. If guilty? now I wonder what will happen.
