Incase you’re wondering who he is, walk with me. El Mencho was born on July 17, 1966, in the rural town of Aguililla, Michoacán, Mexico, into a poor family where he worked growing avocados and dropped out of primary school early. In the 1980s, he illegally immigrated to the United States, settling in California and became involved in drug trafficking. He was arrested multiple times, including in 1994 when he was sentenced to three years in prison for conspiracy to distribute heroin in the Northern District of California. After serving his sentence, he was deported back to Mexico in the late 1990s. Upon returning, he briefly joined the local police forces in the municipalities of Cabo Corrientes and Tomatlán in Jalisco state, serving as an officer for a short period before resigning to pursue criminal activities.

In the early 2000s, El Mencho joined the Milenio Cartel, initially working as a hitman protecting leader Armando Valencia Cornelio, aka "El Maradona," and later aligning with a faction tied to Sinaloa Cartel capo Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel Villarreal. Following Coronel's death in a 2010 military raid, internal fractures in the Milenio Cartel led El Mencho and associate Erik Valencia Salazar, aka "El 85," to break away and form the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) around 2009-2010. Under his leadership, the CJNG rapidly expanded from a regional group into one of Mexico's most powerful & violent criminal organizations, engaging in drug trafficking, extortion, fuel theft, & brutal turf wars with rivals like the Sinaloa Cartel.

El Mencho's reign was alighted by extreme violence, including the use of armored vehicles, drones, land mines, and high-profile attacks on Mexican authorities, such as shooting down a military helicopter in 2015. The CJNG grew into a global operation, trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin into the U.S. and beyond, while corrupting officials and terrorizing communities. He evaded capture for years, with the U.S. offering a $15 million reward, but on February 22, 2026, Mexican forces killed him during an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco; he was wounded and died en route to Mexico City, marking a major blow to the cartel.🥂

Heartbroken but relieved Joshua Loitu Mollel has been returned to Israel after 761 days in Hamas captivity. 💔

Joshua, 21, an agricultural intern from Tanzania, came to Kibbutz Nahal Oz to learn modern farming and one day start his own agricultural business back home.

Kind, polite and hardworking, he embodied hope and curiosity on his very first trip abroad.

Just two and a half weeks after arriving in Israel, Hamas terrorists attacked. Joshua was kidnapped and later murdered in Gaza - his dreams and his family’s hopes stolen in an instant.

After 761 days, Joshua’s body has been returned to Israel - for the dignified farewell he was denied for far too long.
