Id like to humbly disagree, a major chunk of the negativity that JJK attracts are legit criticisms which hit right on the face while consuming it. The story heavily relies on moments of hype and glamor than deep character writing and grounded emotions. I wont strip away some of it's illustrious set pieces in form of the Shibuya Arc, Higuruma's writing or Maki vs the Zenin patriarchy but these are some great writings in bits and pieces. The story is itself a victim to these tropes as it fails to establish a firm sense of sentimental attachment with the readers and if you contemplate on the story right after the conclusion, the moments of high octane showdown and adrenaline will strike you before any nostalgic touch. On top of it, a great section of the JJK fandom is filled with insufferable folks who themselves dont appreciate the finer details of the show and thus have earned the fandom the infamous meme :)
@TheStartOpener@gracefullydot it’s common knowledge that a lot of JJK’s quality comes from the spectacle. the only reason I’ve seen people’s nominations for anime of the year have been in reference to the animation. That’s the primary argument for the ‘hype moments and aura’ angle
@TheStartOpener@gracefullydot An anti-example of this is Mahoraga; we get tell, then show, perfectly. We’re taught that Mahoraga adapts to attacks, so when we see an attack, we know ourselves that Mahoraga has adapted to it, without having to be told, while deriving Maho’s OHKO weakness without telling us asw
@TheStartOpener@gracefullydot I can see why people had a problem with, instead of watching a fight, listening to Tengen yammer on like ‘If you’re a retard and don’t know what’s going on, x opened their domain allowing them to y, because their technique operated like z’
@TheStartOpener@gracefullydot - writing is crammed into the fights in incessant hand-holding rather than explained naturally in a predetermined set of rules that are allowed to play out when fights occur
- hwb was a perfect example, having power-ups and rules engrained into immediate action are inconsistent
@gracefullydot JJK isn't that good man. Please, be honest and stop lying to yourself. Apart from the information slop power system, hype moments & aura and flashy fights with loud music jjk has nothing to offer. It's like a 2 hour music video with no story
"Forgive me, Hitler but I have my needs."
"What?"
"You are the most beautiful negress I have ever seen. Please go out with me."
"WHAT?!!"
"I'll breed the darkness out of you. One baby at a time."
"IT'S JUST A TAN I'M NOT A FUCKING NIGGER!!!"
@AkumaRukaIII In the 20 or so minutes of screentime he had, Naoya portrayed a far better representation of systematic, generational oppression than Yuji ever did, with all that “I’m a cog” crap. There is far more room for introspection and analysis within Naoya rather than Yuji.
