@RealDonMarshall I don’t agree with your framing of the premise. That framing ignores that housing affordability across all neighborhoods is still linked. Many factors of course drive differences across neighborhoods, but macroscopic factors apply to all, impacting stability vs. market entry.
Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.
The sheriff jabbed her in the neck with his club while she queued to register to vote.
She was fifty-four years old. She turned round and punched him so hard he went down.
Three deputies put her on the ground. Annie Lee Cooper.
She had tried to register before. She had already been sacked from her job at a nursing home for trying.
On that morning in January 1965 about a hundred and fifty people were queuing outside the Dallas County courthouse in Selma.
Sheriff Jim Clark was working the line as he always did, moving people on.
He pushed her. She told him he should not have done that. He jabbed her with the billy club. And she hit him. Properly. He went to the pavement.
The photograph of her being held down by three men while Clark stood over her with his club raised ran nationally and is one of the images that moved Selma onto the front pages in the weeks before the bridge.
She was jailed for eleven hours.
She lived in Selma for another fifty years, voted in every election she could, and in 2008 stood in line again, at ninety-six, to vote for a Black president.
She said she would have waited all day. She died in 2010 at ninety-nine.
Fifty-four years old, in a queue, with a club in her neck. And she swung.
The Nazis also sought to purge society of the "unfit," and "undesirable." By the end, more than a quarter million German citizens with physical disabilities or mental illnesses were systematically murdered.
The first steps down that road looked exactly like this.

Reflecting Pool disgrace: As a former United States Attorney, I am stunned that any federal judge in the United States of America would ever have to write these words.
We can’t normalize this evil.
I'm very excited that Pete Hegseth is starting the Department of Religious Affairs. Since he married two of his mistresses and his family still seems very religious, I assume his own affairs were very wholesome and religious.
This is unacceptable for our military. Our military swears an oath to the Constitution not to a religion, a diety, or a book. It is made up of all Americans and reflects our entire society. It must not be turned into a Christian militia.
@JohnSeidlitz I think we can ALL agree that fewer abortions are desirable, but it seems some people don’t want to unite on that front and would rather weaponize the issue from one side or the other.
@JohnSeidlitz It is unbelievably frustrating. I hadn’t seen this specifically, but had heard about other studies and policy initiatives (possibly related to the materials that drove this) that indicated we have enough evidence to focus efforts based on outcomes, rather than division.
@elimcgowan@DerekSteward3 I am glad to hear it!
I was hopeful that it was just a response to cognitive dissonance, which I’ve seen before and even experienced once upon a time.
