[HOUSE BREAKING] Police in Johannesburg are investigating a burglary at the residence of suspended SAPS Divisional Commissioner for Supply Chain Management, Lieutenant General (Dr) Molefe Isaac Fani.

According to preliminary information, unknown suspects gained access to the property and stole gadgets (including his laptop). The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation, and no arrests have been made at this stage.

Our country simply cannot afford to have a repeat of the Scorpions disbandment aftermath. The piece of legislation that governs IDAC, National Prosecuting Authority Amendment Act 10 of 2024 is sound and effective if used correctly. Rather investigate and remove the members who are bringing a much needed investigative unit into disrepute.

The reality is public and private sector investigative units within South Africa are resourced from SAPS or ex-SAPS - bad elements from this pool of human resource are bound to end up somewhere where they can abuse their powers as law enforcement. Adv Andrea Johnston in one of her first public interviews after her IDAC appointment mentioned the issue of “fishing for talent from the same pool.”

I am hopeful that #MadlangaCommission can bring resolution to this ongoing issue of bad elements moving from one law enforcement agency to another which undermines our criminal justice system.
