@ShadowofEzra (2/2) They are *contrails*, caused by aircraft turbulence. The reason there are more now is there are a LOT more planes, and modern aircraft fly a lot higher than in the "good old days", at altitudes where they last longer. To stop them, you would literally have to ban flying.
