I made a game.
$1 vs. $1,000,000 startup
You're a broke investor. However, if you can guess which startup generates more revenue, there's hope.
You'll play with real websites and Stripe-verified revenue.

🇰🇷 South Korean AI Lab Upstage AI has just launched their first reasoning model - Solar Pro 2! The 31B parameter model demonstrates impressive performance for its size, with intelligence approaching Claude 4 Sonnet in 'Thinking' mode and is priced very competitively
Key details:
➤ Hybrid reasoning: The model offers optionality between 'reasoning' mode and standard non-reasoning mode
➤ Korean-language ability & Sovereign AI: Based in Korea, Upstage announced superior performance in Korean language evaluations. This release aligns with countries' interests to develop sovereign AI capabilities
➤ Pricing: Competitively priced at $0.5/1M tokens (input & output), significantly cheaper than comparable models including Claude 4 Sonnet Thinking ($3/$15/M input/output tokens) and Magistral Small ($0.5/$1.5/M input/output tokens)
➤ Proprietary: @upstageai has not released the model weights, though they have open-sourced previous Solar Pro models. Whether they will release Solar Pro 2's weights remains unclear as it wasn't mentioned in their announcement
I cloned a client’s web app for fun and promoted it on Douyin (the original Chinese version of TikTok)
We made $9k in 3 weeks. A long thread 🧵
I’ve always wondered what would happen if we promoted a product on Douyin instead of TikTok, so after my posts from 3 weeks ago I decided to run a few experiments.
The tool is a web app that uses AI to teach you how to eat and cook dishes from different cuisines around the world, including Italian, French, Greek and more.
Unfortunately, Douyin doesn’t support slideshows, so I had to come up with a fast, scalable video format with a Chinese style hook, and we used a friend’s Douyin account to post.
The results were surprising. We posted 18 times and averaged around 45–50k views per video. Two even hit 2.1M and 900K.
For comparison, the same videos on TikTok averaged just 3k views over 18 posts. Only two reached 60k.
The reach is insane. Maybe because I’m promoting something new they’re not used to? No idea.
Still, in just 3 weeks we made around $9k just by posting in Chinese, without optimizing anything.
To do this we had to overcome several challenges, starting with China’s Great Firewall. I had a friend buy a .cn domain on https://t.co/owjnqUgTZX since it requires an ID. Then I cloned the code, translated the site into Chinese using AI, set everything up on the new domain, and adjusted the price from $14.99 to 69 CNY.
We posted content using the web version during the first few days, then we downloaded the app on a secondary phone using the guide they themselves provide on their website https://t.co/Rd9MTtZ7xz
Compared to TikTok, people on Douyin are much more open-minded about trying new products and more likely to buy on impulse without overthinking it. Plus, they’re all used to digital payments, and if they’re really interested in something, they’ll even DM you about it.
The results were so impressive that I’m now thinking about finding a way to promote mobile apps on the Chinese Apple Store as well.
Introducing Research Mode 🔬
Notion AI can now analyze all of your sources, and the web, to create detailed docs you can share with your team. Think of it as your personal analyst!
On my first day of posting productivity content on TikTok
After 5 hours
TikTok: 489 views - 31 likes
Douyin: 84 views - 1 like
Perhaps my content doesn't resonate with Chinese audiences. I'll need to research more about Douyin
In my research on productivity apps on TikTok, I found few products thriving on this platform, with many lacking even a TikTok account.
Is TikTok ineffective for this segment, or is this an untapped opportunity?🧐
