People believe in sola scriptura because they believe scripture is the only infallible authority we have. The apostles or Jesus giving teaching orally would be infallible but we don’t have access to their words outside scripture.

Catholics would have you believe that some dude speaking millennia later can declare what you need to believe about Mary just because, which is what we disagree on. Apostles of Jesus or God or prophets are infallible orally or by text, bishops are not.

It's important to also consider the Catholic perspective, because a lot of arguments against protestantism would also dismantle the Catholic case. This is because for whatever reason a fairly common Catholic argumentation style is to try and dismantle the value of all authority outside the RCC so that people can focus their faith on the RCC. The practical impact of this is that as soon as someone doubts the RCC, they reject everything.

This is a terrible approach. This sort of Jesuit style reasoned approach led to the French revolution, which led to terrible things throughout the world. It's important to value authority outside just the raw hierarchy of the church. We have had 2000 years of church teachings, numerous theologians who are important, archaeological studies which back up the bible, we should respect and value non infallible authorities.

Jerome had a lot of reasons to oppose the deuterocanon. He noted the Jews didn't hold it, he noted the messiness of a number of the additions. In seeking out the canon we are looking to find what the Jews who Jesus said to obey "So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." and while it's nice that the qumram translated Sirarch and Tobit (not the others), that doesn't make it canon.

If you base your authority on man, then error is inevitably gonna creep in. There is an authority without error, God. Did Moses need an infallible papal authority to tell him whether he could accept the voice of God at the bushes? Did the crowds in Acts need an infallible papal authority to hear the gospel of Jesus?

No. They saw miracles, they saw the fulfilment of prophesies, and they believed the word of God.

Organic process of acceptance in the church was the answer in the Roman Catholic Church for 1500 years. Why do we need to have a different answer to them for 1500 years?

In terms of the grounds of this organic process, Protestants tended to favour the research of the Church Father Jerome.

And Jerome and his research and view was lauded by the Roman Catholic Church up to the council of trent. Why should we discard over a thousand years of tradition in favour of the new fad of the RCC rejecting the church father Jerome?

God is the end of all things and the beginning for us, not the pope. Protestant faith rests on God, not man.

The pattern is that God has ultimate authority. Things which are not God don’t have ultimate authority.

The normative pattern from acts was you have miracles eg Jesus resurrection or Moses parting the seas and then you hear the word and believe from appointed prophets or apostles. There are also prophesies associated with the things happening showing the might of God.

A random person speaking 1500 years later lacks any of that divine authority. Matthew 15:9 “‘They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’”

And the Jews then had the same claim as the rcc. They claimed an oral tradition from Moses which evolved over time which had the same authority as the speech of God.

@mattxiv @UofOklahoma The essay wasn't great, but the assignment was to react to an article. It wasn't a very scholarly assignment. If she gave her a low mark for poor grammar, I'd get it, but the student instructor response is mostly ideology and 0 is too low for an ok response.

Obama and Eric Holder ran illegal guns to Mexican cartels in the hope of creating a false flag incident, and then tried to use executive privilege to hide any documents relating to it. The house tried to sue for the documents, and the case was dropped when Democrats won in 2019.

It's a sign that they have zero care about gun safety, they just want control. They're happy to murder Americans with illegal guns if it gives them more control, and happy to work with gangs to fuck over Americans.
