Neolithic Cannibals - Deep Listening to the Unheard.
A sound art project for young people that rarely get the chance to be artists. Unheard / Resonating / Wildly

This is so important. We are already seeing the disadvantage played out in this discussion, where those more likely to organise, have access and knowledge and voices, are able to shout the loudest. Areas like Whitehawk have been neglected for too long.
📷 Urgent Call to Action: Help Us Build a Fairer Education System!📷
We're at a crucial moment for education in Brighton and Hove, and we need YOUR help! We're organising a working group to be ready to tackle the catchment area consultation - a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address educational inequality in our community.
Whether you're good with data, know the local community, have experience in education, or simply care deeply about giving every child a fair chance - we need you! The most important qualification is your commitment to making our education system work better for everyone.
📷 Time is crucial! There are groups organising to maintain the status quo, but we believe positive change is possible if we work together.

Very proud to represent @DivideClass at last weeks @BrightonHoveCC Scrutiny Meeting, discussing the recently announced review into secondary school catchment areas.
A great day today. Two of our members spoke @BrightonHoveCC as part of the engagement exercise on catchment area change and we got our first mention in Parliament 😁
@Luke_Donnelly99 Hi Luke, I just finished reading your article. Thank you for sharing this horrible, shocking but unsurprising story of what you describe as 'forgotten communities'.
IMPORTANT. This is what Neolithic Cannibals was about. The archaeology and sound connected directly to excavating and amplifying the disgusting unfairness in the education system in Brighton & Hove. I hope that message, delivered creatively in this context, gets through.
Brighton and Hove City Council has just announced a review of catchment areas and Planned Admission Numbers (PANs) for secondary schools. This is a significant development that we've been pushing for since our campaign began.
Why This Matters:
- It's a chance to address the stark educational inequalities in our city
- It could lead to fairer access to quality education for all children
- It's an opportunity to ensure children from Whitehawk, Manor Farm, and Bristol Estate have better educational opportunities
What's Next:
1. We'll be closely analysing the council's proposals
2. We'll share our thoughts and concerns with you
3. We'll need your help to ensure these changes benefit the least advantaged in our city
How You Can Help:
- Stay informed: Make sure you're following us on all our social media channels - https://t.co/uhWWoaFZdD
- Make sure you are signed up to our newsletter - https://t.co/d33STq8FbY
- Spread the word: Share this news with your networks
- Get involved in the official Council discussion
- Get ready to act: We will need your voice in upcoming consultations or meetings
This is a crucial moment for education in Brighton & Hove. The decisions made in the coming months could shape the future of our children for years to come. We need to stand together to ensure that any changes lead to a more inclusive and equitable education system.

@SounddesignerUK@ajwegman @MikeWinship +1 for the Schoeps plug in. I use Harpex if I want to do more complex conversion. And Blue Ripple for injecting in to Ambisonic mixes.
@SounddesignerUK This looks great. I have the Schoeps DMS setup with the Cinela wind protection, but because of my mic arrangement the Cinela is a bit of a fiddly/large set up. That Cyclone looks really nice and maybe smaller??
Also important for us to say, we welcome @BrightonHoveCC commitment to talking to the city about what a fairer catchment and admissions system looks like. As members of the Brighton & Hove community we will take part in the conversation and encourage our supporters to do the same. We know this issue has the potential to divide, but we hope that the support that was shown to a fairer system earlier this year will continue. In particular that the leadership shown by Jacob Taylor and @BellaSankey is supported by all politicians in the city.
We want to create an education system that works for all children and we believe that the best chance to achieve this is through more integrated schools based in all communities across the city.

It takes a city to educate its children, all of its children.
Listen to the podcast series to understand why the education setup in the city needs a reboot.

As the city is currently going through some changes to school admissions, we thought it would be good to share a clip from our podcast series about why these changes are so important. https://t.co/MxCb7Bug0f
I also found myself listening to my listening recently and noticing that I was forcing it. I think it is interesting to share some my listening here but I’m keeping an ear on how it shapes the practice in ways I might not welcome.
‘As you listen, the particles of sound decide to be heard. Listening affects what is sounding. It is a symbiotic relationship. As you listen, the environment is enlivened. This is the listening effect.’ Pauline Oliveros. (2/2)
I’m reading through September’s Listening Journal entries, thinking about which ones I’ll share and I came across a quote that eloquently describes something of what I’m experiencing when engaging with the listening journal. (1/2)
